I am still in the boat of: "just ignore it, maybe it will go away".

I thought it HAD gone away.

Do we seriously have to choke it and drown it?

They are trying to jump the gun

If we ever reach the point of a true two tier HW division of 6'4" 230 pound men Vs 6'7" 260 pound men then it makes sense

But there isn't enough of a divide right now. Then how do you deal with a 5'11" 260 pound man like Ruiz? You can't.

I wait with almost tingling anticipation the announcement of super-bridgerweight. And junior bridgerweight.

This is just getting ridiculous. We don’t need anymore damn weight classes.

What’s next, are we gonna have Titanweight, Monsterweight, or Godzillaweight?

Can't see it ever really taking off. HW is the money division. If a boxer is a HW - even a 'small' one - he's gonna stay there and an ambitious CW will skip bridger and go straight to where the money's at...

The most comical part is that they appear to be leaving cruiser at 200. So there will be a 25 pound jump from LHW to crusier, and a 24 pound jump from cruiser to bridger. Makes no sense.

They've already got 3-4 heavyweight champs. What do they need this crap for?

If a US fighter gets the bridgerweight belt and has star quality he will stay there and make a lot of money.

I really like the idea of fewer divisions, even adjust the weights a little if you want. I'm so cynical about boxing after all these years I half expect more divisions over 200 pounds ,,200-215lbs, Bridger , 215 -230 , heavyweight,,,and 230+ super heavyweight. I better stop or these mafia organizations might use this notion.

truthfully it seems to be neither good nor bad since so few matches are being made. but I'll answer in theoretical terms:

it's a good idea in isolation, tackling a recognisable problem of 21st century boxing, namely a seemingly ever-increasing size difference between cruiser and heavy.

much less positively, it *exacerbates* a different, more serious problem of 21st century boxing, namely a proliferation of weight classes.

lastly, it compounds a more serious still problem of 21st century boxing, namely the proliferation of 'world titles'.

it does make sense that boxing would these days have more weight classes than in say the early through mid 20th century. European (including European American) and West African (including African American and British etc) men, the two ethnic groups who, in the main, dominated early versions of all the world titles, are so much bigger then they used to be back then. but at the same time, there are way more world class fighters from countries with mostly smaller men (Asia etc) than there used to be. but things have gone too far.

Dreadful idea. As if we need more excuses for the best to avoid fighting the best.

"Sorry, can't have Joshua V Wilder because deontay has to defend his Bidgerweight belts first"
