People who were actually ringside as opposed to watching on TV had Takam doing well. All the judges had him ahead.

The stoppage wasn't premature, I don't think, but Takam was clearly doing well. For what it matters.

What I hate is dodgy home refereeing.

If Joyce had been on the receiving end, there would never have been a stoppage. He would have been given a chance to fight back, the same chance should have been given to Takam.

I don't get how it's dodgy. Joyce was under no threat and scoring at will by the time of the stoppage. Unless Frank Warren had a bet on it ending that round, who benefits?

Joyce was behind on the scorecards. Joyce and his promoter Warren benefit.

In the Ritson-Ponce fight, the same referee Steve Gray wouldn't accept the corner throwing in the towel! Ritson had to be knocked down two more times before he'd stop it. Gray wanted to give the home fighter every chance.

First vid I've seen of this bout. Have only skimmed p1. LOL the commentators were awfully biased against Takam.
"Joe's starting to break him up...", WTF? "Takam's legs looking heavy..." as Takam bounces on his toes.

I've seen worse stoppages, but this was clearly a business/ political stoppage for Joyce. Has boxing ever been on the up & up? :ohno
Takam was also visibly irate as the ref was waving it off.

Did you watch all of it or the highlights? Takam was gasping for air on his stool before the last two rounds- no way he was coming back into the fight.

you can't assess who was winning from highlights. Joyce clearly won some of the later rounds before the stoppage.

Pretty close by the rounds, but Joyce was clearly ascendant.

Takam was ahead on the scorecards but the chances of him making it to the judges was pretty slim anyway, and he was never going to stop Joe either. Maybe it could have been allowed to go on longer but it looked like it would have just resulted in Takam continuing to get tee'd off on.

Takam put his all his 12 round gas tank into those early rounds. He was causing Joe all sorts of problems but he was draining himself in the process. Being gassed and having Joe coming at you isn't going to end well. You could see the wheels had already fallen off and it wasn't going to be long before Joyce put Takam out on his back.

Gray should be suspended however , he Robbed Joyce of a conclusive win , robbed Takam of a conclusive loss and robbed the fans of an enjoyable contest.

Yea, Del has always been one to talk shite, especially when it suits his agenda - making anyone believe that Takam was the better fighter improves the standing of Del's win against him.

At the same time, I don't think Del would want precedent set that that's a fair stoppage - I think it was, but plenty of fighters wouldn't want to be stopped yet at that stage (even when clearly done) and Del would be one of them.

Not troll necessarily, but posting opinions based on not having even watched it is kinda impolite - it's a waste of anyone's time to engage with deliberately uninformed opinions.

    Not really.

There will always be someone that holds a particular view - if you're determined enough you'll always find someone you can hold up as an expert that conforms with your presupposition... Doesn't change that you haven't formed that opinion based on any evidence.

If you come to it neutral and come to that opinion, that's fine.
If you come to that opinion based on biased media coverage (all media coverage is biased in some way, always will be) highlights, then that's not a great basis for your opinion - highlights don't necessarily show the better fighter with the upper hand, it might be that the more entertaining moments were from the other guy.

Terrible stoppage. Fights should be decided in the ring, by the fighters, not by squeamish officials. Up until about the 1970s, refs understood this and let fights continue until someone was floored and couldn't get up by the ten count. That's what should have happened here.

**** me... Barely any complaints about the fixed fight Canelo Kovalev stoppage where the ref jumps in to stop it immediately before having a good look at Kovalevs eyes... Yet everyones complaining about this one, where the outcome would have been fairly obvious. Joyce landed several clean unanswered blows you stupid hypocrites and didn't answer back. Also, no one can see Takams eyes but the ref whose right in front of him... Did anyone else see Takams leg go at the end there as well? This was after Takam looking extremely unsteady on his feet.. Just look at his feet throughout the period following that left hook you ****ing imbeciles.

By the looks of things Takam would have not recovered especially given the time left in the round. It would have just involved Takam getting his head pounded in..

AJ Takam on the other hand was a CLEAR early stoppage
