Usyk went life and death with weathered Chisora and people are picking him vs George ****ing Foreman. The **** is going on?
OMG, you guys just love legends about old fighters right ? That they were the best and nobody would beat them in the modern era.
You have to remember Foreman fought during the 15 round era, boxers did way more endurance training and brought their weights down to be able to go 15 rounds. If Foreman was facing Usyk in a 12 round era he wouldn't be training to do 15 rounds but only 12 and much like how sprinters are bigger than middle distance runners a 12 round version of Foreman would likely be heavier, not the 220-225lbs version we saw but north of 230lbs probably closer to 240lbs. So yes I think Foreman was probably 15-20lbs heavier naturally, just looking at them you can tell Foreman is just physically bigger. Chisora doesn't fight like Foreman but it showed how an aggressive bigger heavyweight can physically impose his size and strength advantage and that's something I could see prime Foreman doing, especially with how he controls smaller men. I agree on how Foreman approaches it. I'd pick Usyk to out box him if he had showed me he's inclined to clinch and smother opponents who get inside like Ali and Young did but I haven't seen that skill set in any of his performances and that's the difference as it would mitigate the effectiveness of Foreman's attacks as he'd be limited to one or two big swings before getting smothered. Against Chisora when he did clinch he wasn't doing it effectively and Chisora was still able to hold and hit vs Uysk and I think that suggests once Foreman gets close to Usyk, Usyk doesn't have the no how to prevent being manipulated into positions where Foreman will land heavy shots. Also when Usyk was backed onto the ropes he didn't clinch he covered up and that I think is very dangerous vs Foreman who would then open up and pound away with his heavy hooks to head and body.
Foreman did not train to go 15, his stamina was awful. Foreman won the vast majority of his bouts via knockout. Young Foreman never paced himself and it showed whenever he was taken into the later rounds.
Yeah, i can see Usyk outboxing him but Foreman kept the pressure on his opponents and went to the body ALOT against Jimmy Young and Ali, someone like Usyk could be especially susceptible to that because of his high guard and Foreman had sledgehammers for fists. It's a close fight.
I guess, Usyk is a slow starter though and was getting tagged by Chisora a lot in the beginning. Now that i really think about this, Foreman would probably KO him. Either in the early or mid rounds, but past that it's 100% going to be Usyk by decision. Jimmy Youngs head movement was obviously giving Foreman issues
I doubt it. Foreman was slow as **** and crude. One hopes Usyk would shut down the only way by which Foreman could beat him.
He was slow but not crude, Foreman was skilled. although when he fought Jimmy Young who was slipping all of his shots he looked bamboozled. I've been watching a lot of Foreman lately and haven't given him credit for his skills, he pivoted well and head movement was better than Anthony Joshua's at least LOL. He isn't much slower than Chisora and hit a lot harder. Foreman was excellent at cutting off the ring, better than Chisora who himself is a pressure fighter. So anybody dancing around him would eventually get shut down and would be forced into a clinch or forced to onto ropes to fight. I don't watch too much Usyk but from what i can tell Usyk doesn't do that a lot. After slipping out of that position multiple times i saw him shell up against Chisora when he couldn't go anywhere anymore, he did it against Breidis too. Ali and Young did fight off the ropes though or at least Ali did. Young mostly slipped on the inside multiple times on the ropes but also clinched and fought back time to time on the ropes. But if it goes past round 5 it is 100% Usyks fight
When you actually look at the Jimmy Young fight, Foreman looked good early and showed quicker hands than Chisora when he opened up. He completely manhandled Young, pivoted with young well so he didn't loose sight of him, showed good infighting against a far quicker fighter and gave him a lesson on the ropes. But when it went late he looked horrible lol
