Make a list of boxers who have not scandalized people with their behaviours outside the ring. Never heard bad things about: Foreman (after Jimmy Young) Lewis Hagler Klitschkos Joshua Golovkin Usyk M. Spinks Bruno But I can be wrong. Do you know others?
Spinks was up on drugs charges, assault too. Vitali was caught using drugs as an amateur. Joshua made a black supremacist post on twitter and got in a bit of trouble for it. Foreman was caught up in a 1990s bribery scandal (Which, tbf to him, seemed mostly to be the fault of an alphabet and Bob Arum, but still). Hagler pleaded guilty to assault of a woman in the early 1990s.
Archie Moore too built a Boys Club in my neighborhood in 1969, and paid for an under privileged boy to have a successful eye surgery.
It is an awful lot to expect really. You ask him to put his life and well being on the line in the ring for your entertainment and then want to judge how he lives when you aren't watching?
Billy Graham the Preacher was a great person. I'm referring too Billy Graham the boxer though. Look him up. Superb ring mechanic with an iron chin. Classy guy by all accounts I've ever read
Little Red Jersey Joe Disagree on Arguello though. Multiple divorces, cocaine, shady political career.
I understand why you'd say so, but even here, there is so much darkness swimming around boxing and boxers. Floyd Patterson was a thief as a kid. I can't remember how old, but he stole. Definitely turned it all around in later life, working with troubled kids, all that there, but it's hard for a saint to find their way into boxing I think. Arguello - yeah, but his alliance with Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega was a hideous thing.
