The boxing itself was good Enjoyed 3 of the 5 matches last night Everything else felt like SKY but without SKY monitoring it So less professional i guess
What I was expecting last night: This content is protected What we ended up with: This content is protected
The ice cream van and Laura Woods were welcome additions. Bellew, Jama and Andy Lee had a nightmare last night.
Very similar to Sky, but Sky is a bit more polished, certainly better than the amateur hour over at BT sport. I think for its first show it wasn't bad at all, as the weeks and months go on with feedback and a few experiments here and there it will exceed the competition.
Stream quality was great. All fights bar the campbell hatton one decent, sorry but you have people whining when womens fights are on saying they feel ripped off etc, thats how i feel bout campbells fights on all these shows its go and make a brew time then. Said it before his debut so raw and novice like gonna be bringing him on the next 6 years. That Maya Jama was quite annoying, didnt have a clue abar boxing and seemed like that banter with crouchy etc mode, laura woods much better. Bellew can be annoying at times but i thought he was ok tonight. I really like listening to andy lees insights in interviews etc, but feel he struggles when on the spot in commentary position bit all over the place with his opinions. Thought chris and darren were ok. Overall i enjoyed a decent night of boxing, dunno abar game changed and Kugan nearly cumming when he saw the fight list, but i dont have sky or BT sport so £1.99 for me for now is good value for money
Pros: The actual fights were decent bar Hatton Lee's commentary No ads Good stream quality Laura Woods Already mentioned but Sweet Caroline not being shoved in the viewers faces Cons: Lee's scorecards Maya Jama, if that really was her screaming during the fights then that is p/ss poor professionally. Also "Leigh Woods" fs Bellew. No explanation required This has been mentioned already too but the 'Essex' atmosphere to the whole thing. Banter before boxing Eddies presence in every interview
OUT: Maya Jama, Chris Lloyd, Darren Barker and Andy Lee All of them were absolutely ****ing useless. Maya: Maya's only interest in boxing was allegedly taking a length from a certain British HW champion boxer. She isnt at all interested in the sport and hasnt done any research. It really shows that she isnt a boxing fan. Chris Lloyd: He really doesnt belong there, looks like someone who is friendly and has been able to con people into believing he deserves a job. Andy Lee: He was horrendously bias in his commentary and his scorecards were bias to the point of not being professional last night. He wasnt describing the fights I was seeing when his Irish mate was fighting. You cannot have that, simply unacceptable. Darren Barker: He was too quiet, and too anonymous. You need to actually say something that people remember, rather than being a safe ****. IN: Whoever the they can afford with their Poundland budget. But I would advise them to look at a number of replacements who are recent retired boxers and unemployed commentators. It wouldnt be difficult to do better than those 4 I chose to sack. Keep: Laura Woods, Tony Bellew, Mike Costello Why? Laura- Does her research and is intelligent in her questioning. A standout. Tony- He has a personality and does offer an opinion. A keeper. Mike- He is a professional with experience and that is clear. A keeper
I had no problems at all, it was perfect for me. Perhaps it is due to your local internet conditions.
Don't agree here. For boxing, Sky is super expensive, they give us adverts between rounds, constant cross-promotion to their other events, and seemingly have 1 PPV card scheduled per quarter, regardless of quality. (Chisora v Parker - really?) Commentary as we all know has gone horribly downhill. I miss the Sky Sports of the 90s/early 2000s too, but those days are long gone. That isn't Eddie's fault. Happy to stand corrected if they go back to the magic old days, but I can't see it.
I think the faults you have with Sky were down to Hearn having free reign and Adam Smith not wanting to challenge him. As you say though it’s doubtful they’ll get back to the old days but we can all hope.
I think it was good for a first event, sure they'll improve. Didn't realize they had hired Ali Drew as well. She can replace Jama or Woods anytime if needed. Though, Woods was very good yesterday. They definitely need 2 commentators with Jama next time. Bellew alone is not enough with a presenter who is a total novice for boxing or sports in general.
Get Woods doing the main presenting role as she is a sports journalist & presenter and will add the need weight to the role. Get Maya doing the soft pieces / shoulder work as she begins to learn the sport. Get another analyst to sit alongside Bellew. Very odd to have only one analyst doing the co-presenting. Always need a second opinion to aid flow to the conversation. I like Chris Lloyd but didn't enjoy him becoming involved in the Frampton spat ( see Jamie Moores Instagram post). You've got to be professional considering you're commentating on the fight. Thankfully the fights were good which makes these problems just small adjustments (look at GB news for how difficult a launch can be) as we progress through fight camp.
