That was not the best version of Toney that fought RJJ, yes RJJ clowned him with the move he stole from a gamecock. But Canelo wouldn't fight RJJ anything like how Toney did. He'd be a much more difficult opponent for RJJ than Toney was when they fought. RJJ would shut a lot of people out when he was in his prime but Canelo isn't one of them.
Shut the **** up, you thought Canelo won rounds 1,2,3,4,6,10,11,12 as well saying he has a case for round 5 in the first fight. You have absolutely no objectivity when it comes to Canelo
He did win those rounds, or should have. Most people agree that he won 1-3 & 10-12. GGG did slightly better in 4 but Canelo still won it imho. The judges gave it to GGG because he did better than the first 3. If you can't see that then that's your issue. Round 5 Canelo was clearly winning the first half of the round, the HBO punch stats had Canelo landing more punches in this round. The main reason why people give GGG rounds 4 and 5 is because Canelo went to the ropes and laid on the ropes while picking off shots from GGG. This has to do with going into the fight people saying how it's a definite no-no for Canelo to go to the ropes, how you can't do that vs GGG. Canelo proved you can go to the ropes vs GGG and stay there thus destroying that myth. So that's why a lot of GGG fans have a hard time giving Canelo those rounds because it disproved that myth about going to the ropes vs GGG. In round 5 GGG landed a shot while he was on the ropes but not the 4th. I gave GGG the 5th because he finally landed a decent punch, but the 4th Canelo still outpointed him and landed the better shots. If you want to talk about objectivity and you know anything about me you know I'm very objective when it comes to scoring rounds.
Pure Insanity here, general forum never ceases to amaze me.. Anyone thinking Canelo needs to really take a good long watch of Roy in his prime... then think again smh
You don't need no clock when you SHUTOUT James Toney! Peak Roy was like lightning! IMO the only recipe to even come close to living with a peak RJJ is granite chin + tireless engine and great footwork and angles. Only fighter in past 30 years i'd give a chance against Roy at his peak from 168 down would be a peak Joe Calzaghe, and even then Roy would be the hot favourite in that. I think RJJ struggles a bit more when you look at the great names at 175 - like Spinks i'd favour over RJJ - but one could say that's a pick 'em as if Roy lands clean... I'd take Roy to KO Canelo 5 times out of 10 with the other 10 Canelo might be able to last to a wide UD loss. And we are talking peak Roy here, not post-Ruiz / Tarver etc...
