Gadzhimagomedov just to good. So hard to get away from those longs arms and well timed attacks.

What the hell is that Argie watching?

Even when Gadz misses he is just corralling Nyika into where he wants to tag him with a follow up.

He's scoring like Gadzhimagomedov is directly responsible for the UK's sovereignty claim on the Falkland Islands.

Lots of lunging and slapping, but greater quality and quantity lunging and slapping from Gadzhimagomedov.

How would you describe his style? Having only seen him occasionally and against overmatched opposition, I was under the misapprehension he was sort of a slick, accurate pot shotter well suited to the amateurs. This may just be because he’s generally taller and more athletic than the guys I’ve seen him against.

    Official cards:

    30-27
    29-28
27-30 (wow, that Argie really doubling the hell down  :shakehead:)

    SD for Gadzhimagomedov

Accuracy is well and good but in the amateurs it must be paired with volume to score points, and he's missing the latter piece. He was picking his spots and throwing with good technique and sharpness but Gadzhimagomedov wouldn't cooperate, just kept riding everything, turning Nyika, flanking him and clonking him upside the head.

At cruiser in the pros, at 6'6" with decent hand speed and likely physical strength advantages over most of his opponents, I could see him developing into a KO artist. Of the 'break you down' variety at least, if not a 1-hitter.

A few potential Val Barker trophy recipients (basically all four team Cuba members, and one, Iglesias, facing another frontrunner in Pat McCormack in the welterweight finals) in action during Session 20, which is coming up in 4 hours. Get some winks in, unless you're staying up to watch Caroline Dubois (her bout is up next, after this women's lightweight quarterfinal in progress)

Yeah I think in the eyes of the NZ boxing media there’s also a tendency to see anyone taller and more fleet-flooted than David Tua as basically a slick outboxer. Probably coloured my perception of Nyika too.

russian wins. We lucked out. The russian had the right idea, went to body and pressed hard early. wore down the cuban. Ragan vs the russian will come down to whoever has better timing. Much better gold medal matchup.

Gotta admire the industry of the Russian but jeez he looked sloppy and cumbersome. Kinda preferred the Cuban’s work.
