    Simple question....

Are boxers taking no lose fights (no harm done on reputation/record) to gain more glory for their legacy or simply cash out? If they face a much bigger opponent and lose, most fans will say they have "courage". What if it's all a ploy to get top dollar?

    Examples :

    Brook v Golovkin

    Khan v Canelo

    Garcia v Spence

    No ploy.

    You don't play boxing.

    Brook literally ruined his career.

Obviously the money is attractive, but the glory of doing the impossible is also very attractive (not to mention exponentially bigger financial rewards with a victory).

I think Khan and Brook were sold out, terrible career moves and I don't think either thought they could win their fight.

Garcia was just a cash grab, seemed at times like a sparring session but just less intense. Mikey thinks he's transcended the sport because he's got a following but the reality is he's just another could've been

No. Getting bashed up is not worth it. Besides, it's not just the physical damage, it's the optics of it. You look bad getting beaten up regardless of how brave it was.

None of the three believed they could win. Those fights were money grabs. Brook suffered a career altering injury. Khan got ktfo again in a horrid mismatch. Garcia fought like the limited fighter he is.

I'd be surprised if Brook or Kahn didn't think they could win. To be a top level sportsman you have to have incredible confidence and self belief bordering on arrogance. They hyped themselves up so much which you have to in your mind to believe you'll be the best and a world champion that they would have gone in to those matches genuinely believing they had a shot.

They both back their skills and believed they could avoid getting it and sadly they were both wrong. Amir Khan you knew it was only a matter of time until Canelo landed. Brook you couldn't see his career going the way it did. I can't remember properly but didn't he go in to that fight unbeaten? His confidence would have been supreme.

Sometimes. In the cases listed I think they were. But other cases such as Duran & Heans fighting Hagler, Griffith fighting Monzon & Trinidad fighting Hopkins - those guys built their way up & believed they could win. They weren't just doing it for the money.

They dared to be great. Absolutely zero way to criticise them for that.

With Brook I do think he did genuinely think he could win, either because he underestimated Ggg or over estimated how his own skills would do at 160, but I also think he went in with the mentality to one-up khan, khan took on canelo and if I remember correctly it was because negotiations fell apart with eubank Jr that a last minute/quick-ish replacement was needed to fight ggg with the venue booked? Brook took the fight in his home country thinking he could out do his rival, the money would have obviously played a part, but I think trying to get a mental edge over khan was a large part of his decision to take the fight.

We can't read their minds. It could be a facade.

Agreed. I didn't respect Brook until he took the Spence fight. That showed amazing courage.

But it isn't a facade. They all went in there against the opposition. They all dared to be great.

Provided they don't get seriously injured, it's a win win. Get respect for taking on a much bigger opponent. If you win, your stock goes way up and you get paid. Take Brook, if he beat Golovkin, he would have bedn put in the top 5 best fighters. Big pay days would have come.
