If Pac beats Spence how does it compare with Hopkins/Pavlik and Foreman/Moorer?

Both Hopkins and Foreman defied the odds when they beat 2 undefeated punchers (Pavlik and Moorer) at 40+ years of age, and Manny is also known for surprising people, especially after beating Thurman to be the oldest WW champ. How great of a win would it be if Pac were to actually beat Spence and how does it compare with Hopkins win over Pavlik and Foreman's win over Moorer?

George Foreman was age 45 when he beat 26-27 year old Michael Moorer (35-0, 30 KOs)
Bernard Hopkins was age 43 when he beat 26 year old Kelly Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs)

Pacquiao is age 42 and will be facing 30 year old Errol Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) and it seems like the odds are favoring Spence due to his size and youth.

Hopkins win over Pavlik does not compare with a potential Pac victory over Spence on Aug 21. Not even close.

Pavlik moved up two weight classes to fight Hopkins because Middleweight was utterly devoid of money fights back in 2007/08. Hopkins was settled at super middleweight and LHW with bouts against Tarver, Winky Wright and Calzaghe.

Pavlik also went into the ring with a massive sinus infection, which in my mind injuries and illnesses always carry consideration when viewing in retrospect.

Hopkins was old indeed and coming off a loss against Calzaghe...but in retrospect viewing this win and seeing what Hopkins would go on to achieve in the years ahead we cannot say it was a miraculous victory by an old fighter.

Pac is 42 yrs old and fighting a much much larger man who's top 5-10 P4P. This is huge.

Beating a much younger top ten or higher champ at 42 yrs old after a 2 yr layoff would be an historical event.

The Foreman win is tops in terms of old guys winning. 45 in 1994 was older than it is today due to advances in hormone treatments, peds, etc that keeps athletes of today younger longer. Just look at all sports, there are more late 30's and 40+ year olds playing at a winning level than back in the day when George Foreman was doing it.

If Pac wins, I'd place that over Hopkins vs Pavlik win due to Pac not only being older, but being the naturally smaller man.

A win by Manny would eclipse both of these accomplishments. Unfortunately, I don't think it is likely.

Pav moved up two divisions. Not quite the same situation. But a Pac win over ESjr would be seen as greater than Foreman's win IMO.

He already owns one of the best age 40+ wins when he beat Thurman. The list of top wins by old folks is not long. Beating Spence will easily triumph Hopkins/Pavlik (overrated victory and performance, though I liked Pavlik a lot).

Comparing it to Foreman-Moorer is silly. Foreman was a lot bigger and in the heavyweight division, anyone can KO anyone at any time given the sheer force that these giants can hit with.

    Really hard question that one.

The only thing not mentioned above is there are some people and quite a few of them who think Manny may win this fight, but at the time Foreman won I don’t think there were many people tipping big George at all, he came in to the fight after loosing his last fight and was going against an undefeated fighter considered in his prime. I remember the commentary and the general tone was Foreman was given little to no chance, I would be surprised commentary will be like for this fight.

Manny comes into this fight in good form (although inactivity and age may take away from that) on the back of a very good win, and some people consider him very live in this fight.

I think if Manny does win it could be a better achievement than Foreman’s due to the level of completion he is facing. But historically speaking I couldn’t see it being considered as big as someone In the mid 90s 45 years old where athletes traditionally didn’t last as long as they do now winning against an undefeated prime fighter and winning the blue ribbon heavyweight world title.

Tom Brady, George Foreman, Roger Federer Tiger Woods and a host of others have remained competitive in other sports at an advanced age and in the public consciousness now it’s not considered as big of shock if someone in their early 40s wins something now, although it did happen in the 90s it was more rare and less publicised.

As a Pac fan, I have to disagree.

A win over Spence would be a great victory for Pac, and it would be a slightly better victory than BHop's win over Pavlik.

But Big George's KO of Moorer is the gold standard when it comes to an older, well-past-best fighter beating a young champion.

Depends HOW Pac hypothetically were to win. If Pac UD Spence, it is greater than than BHop-Pavlik though still below Foreman-Moorer.

However if Pac KO Spence, esp spectacularly, that could eclipse even Big George.

Not really comparitive at all. If Pac beats spence it would be one of the best wins in the history of the sport

    Better than Hopkins vs Pavlik

Not as good as Foreman vs Moorer

A Pac Man W would put it over both mentioned (respectively of course). But I put George vs Michael above B Hop vs Pavlik

It depends on how Spence's career plays out over the years
