Looking at the footage, Louis showed great infighting and decent head movement on the inside. but uh the skillgap between super heavyweights like Bowe, Wlad, Golota, Joshua, Lewis vs Buddy Baer is ridiculous. They're worlds apart. Even a stiff like Michael Grant would put a beatdown on Buddy Baer, you can't make this up. Hell I'd favor Luis Ortiz to severely outclass him too. I watched his fights with Stanton and Louis. He is one of the most stiff, upright boxers i have ever seen in my life. He makes Vitali look fluid. And he was fighting against a bum. Im not even sure Buddy Baer would beat Breazeale, because from what i can tell he looks even less coordinated that him, though Baer does have better head movement. That's just my honest opinion. If anybody disagrees it's fine. Opinions are just opinions
it shouldnt be a debate joe would lose it's simple as that his skills was to basic and slow he would need to upgrade
it's not really a opinion its fact I argee it can be seen easy all those dudes and louis himself was trash when compared to 70s even why people act like baer had skills is strange he didnt he was sloopy and slow just like the rest they wouldnt make pro
I disagree, Louis himself was skilled and was a great combination puncher, but yes the SHW's back then were trash.
his hand speed was good and counter skills was good but his footwork and lack of defense was bad do u disagree on that to cause that's fact
Joe Louis probably would beat the modern super heavyweights, and a couple of other sub 210lb pre WWII guys, might be able to as well. It should be noted however, that those men are kind of the exceptions that prove the rule, as Evander Holyfield was in his day. If you took away Evander Holyfield, we would be left with examples like Herbie Hyde and David Haye.
crazy people use him as a compare cause he was a so called skilled guy back then all those dudes back then was trash they was so sloppy and lack of skill anybody comparing those dudes to 70s or after is crazy joe would lose he has no chance he was like a lw vs a real heavyweight with skill which he never had a match with anybody close to Lennox skills he would get destroyed quick 1st round in like 5 punches
maybe it hasn't occurred to you, Joe Louis TODAY would be fighting 1-3 Times a Year and as a S-MW cum L-HW, just like the BHops and RJJs... now that's an interesting thought for you. Could he Beat Some of the Top Super Heavyweight GIANTS? sure he could, BUT it wouldn't even enter his thinking as he would be 2 Divisions DOWN today!
