I did not expect nothing much from Ragan this games.

Perhaps the most well deserved silver of the games so far.

I will say this..I thought the Ruski got a little lucky against the Mongolian chap he beat in the quarters and though he deserves this gold, I feel bad the Mongol didn't go home with anything.

I thought Pero was a blatant robbery, and so was Walker Mirzha. Torrez was getting the sweat knocked off of him. and even after Pero gassed, Torrez was not landing effective blows nor aggression. Walker, was trying ot be cute but was eating bad hooks and I even saw him wobbled. I thought Aokuso got robbed clear as day too, he was better inside outside. off of the ropes and landed stiffer punches.

Anyone wonder how the American guys would've done? Shu-Shu, Rahim Gonzalez? American boxing is weak these days but this is about the best team in 20 years, favorable decisions aside.

I hate this cliche. The overwhelming of elite pros were great amateurs. That's why I knew Castano would beat Charlo, since he had the pedigree to do so, robbery aside. None of the pros here had any true experience beyond some small round few fights against bums. High level amateurs would even beat many experienced pros IMO. Marcial has the style boxing ability and power to be a great pro. He has an aggressive southpaw style that many wouldn't be used to, and with Freddie Roach I see great upside. He usually loses against the more sound infighters like the Crimean War : Khyzniak and Bakshi.

The more power didnt age well. The man has only 1 stoppage in his pro bouts.

America has 19 world champions in boxing. Do you mean amateur? Thats always the case where picking your punches and building for latter rounds arent as favorable as eye catching shots and elite work rate.

Baffles me how someone could go into a gold medal match with a gameplan of having a swarmer walk into punches when you only have 3 rounds to operate. Atrocious head movement as well.

I'm an American dude. I'm just (trying to be )objective. Anyone can see American boxing has weakened because of the composite of many factors that I don't need to explain. World Champions is a misnomer in today's game where there's 4 sanctioning bodies and 17 weigh classes with hundreds of belts. The best athlete's don't choose boxing in America, and it's a niche sport here, and most of the rich infrastructure that existed in its heyday is vanished. Less gyms ,trainers, and guys boxing than 50 years ago. Several countries are strengthening their programs and in a few years will prob produce better ones pound for pound. It just helps to have 330 million people.

We have 3 fightrs in the top 10 p4p more than any country. Boxing is stagnant in the US but I dont see how it is any weaker then it was say 15 years ago. We havent won **** at the olympics in years. This isnt indicative of that just a problem that goes back 30 years. The American style of fighting just isnt suited for olympics 3 round fights where volume and in fighting is paramount.

Duke Ragan not having basic head movement and getting a silver medal is whats a head scratcher.

I was compare and contrasting their styles. He has more power thrn the russian, both had good timing and the russian had better stamina. Never once did i say ragan would win either. I hoped he did but knew the feat that guy pulled when he ran down your boy, beat his body, and wore him out and coulda gone a few more.

You are barking up the wrong tree boy. Alvarez flat ran and the russian flat ran after him. I know the diff fool. I have ali and whitaker tatted on my back. My favorite 5 fighters today are crawford, colbert, plant, lara, and prob mike hunter.
Your boy alvarez ran from the kid. The kid used the perfect strategy to beat him. Used jabs and stuck to the body early and often. Wore that boy down. I think ragan vs the russian was a closer fight than alvarez vs ragan would be. I dont think ragan woulda done aswell as the russian vs alvarez. Thats why i said we lucked out.

    Nice sportsmanship between them

I've seen a few claim it was a robbery but it wasn't. I watched round 2 and 3 again and I gave both to Khyzhniak. Marcial had spells of success where he was landing with big shots and doing great work but the thing is Khyzhniak is always answering back with good shots of his own during exchanges and he was also working consistently in between them too and would've been able to do so ever more so if not for all the holding from Marcial.

I can't see Khyzhniak doing as well in the pros as he has in the ams since he moved down to middleweight as he'll probably have brain damage. He's tough as nails but having hundreds of fights fighting in that style is not good for your health and he obviously won't be able to keep that pace up over the 12 round distance so he's going to have to slow down and be more economical and pick his shots. That being said, Alen ''The Savage'' Babic looked much better in that sparring footage against Joe Joyce than he does in actual fights so maybe Khyzhniak also possesses more skill than it appears too.
