Cuba is eleven million pop and half of the boxing gold medals. Any documentaries on their program? If not, there should be.
Amazing fight, but I've always said if they claim to have pro rules then use pro stoppages. Khyzniak has never been hurt, but that was a vintage snapped left hook like SRR v Fullmer, but he recovered quickly. Sousa is lucky he pulled that out, because he was being dominated. Feel sorry for the boxing fans who don't watch the Olympics this was better than London and Rio for me personally.
Wow..im a little shocked what absolutely peach of a hook from the Brazilian lad. You have to be very careful in the am's how you react after getting knocked down or a count. The refs aren't super consistent of what warrants a count or a stoppage. Still that seems so harsh and I understand why guys get a bit emotional. These guys train for years and make incredible sacrifices. He was winning that fight handily and probably was still edging that round. I think he was scrambled, he still seemed unsteady about a minute later but to not at least give him the 8 count to see if he could steady himself in the damn gold medal match. Anyways that ones in the books. Congrats to Sousa, he is a great athlete with obviously a very good punch.
Stfu moron, he could have gave him an 8 count . He was ahead on all cards . Ref is a disgrace and was happy to stop it.
Yeah, Davis is a boxer-puncher with solid schooling but he just doesn't have it. Not sure what it is. He fought an easy path to this bout for the most part (almost all guys he's clearly beaten before) but struggled with the pressure fighting of Bachkov. Cruz can adapt on the fly, so im curious on the game plan.
I agree. This wasn't like Jalidov and Khataev where the guy was clearly out after taking a beating, this was a guy who was being dominated and probably would've been wobbled himself if the fight continue, pulling out a hook that wobbled but didn't concuss, or render the opponent unconscious. I've seen guy's get wobbled and hurt in this Olympics and they didn't even get a count. However anyone know anything on Hebert? Can anyone translate what he said? This Olympics was filled with a lot of late bloomers who looked very good, I recall a commentator saying he didn't box for long, is it true?
Might be a lesson to Khyzhniak. A Cuban would have floated around the ring and just done enough with a lead like that. He seemed hell bent on staying in 5th gear, he was like a greyhound ready to jump at the start of every round.
well that’s his style and he was perfectly fine to continue, I don’t think khyzniak is anything special and he was ahead , he got knocked down , but stood right up, why stop?? Oh wait Olympics it’s about politics , not sport.
Khyzniak fights a pro style that's why, but I agree. He was looking for a knockout IMO. Sousa doesn't have much power in his right hand, but as we know the left hook because of its snap and the angle it generally lands on the likely opponent in an Orthodox v Orthodox matchup, done correctly it is the most dangerous punch. Khyzniak has a problem of not shorting up his punches with more variance. He should've thrown a straight right cross, not the right overhand. He has great upside though, not many true pressure fighters, with the right trainer he should go pro, he has a fanpleasing style and would make great matchup against some of our Western fighters.
Davis has more timing , that he improved than power. Power is innate. He didn't seem to have any against Bachkov, if you noticed he was flatfooted when he landed those major punches and Oumiha doesn't keep his gloves up high. He does emphasize on social media that he is a boxer-puncher and emphasis on puncher, however.
To be honest i don't see anyone that will be a champion and dominate in the pros in this olympic competition.
