His power would make him a danger to almost anybody. As for his rating I’m not sure, but I can’t imagine placing him too terribly high. The types of wins he had doesn’t warrant it. I mean sure he has some “ decent “ wins over Graham, Drayton, Baek and a young Norris but i don’t know if it’s an ATG resume. Still an awesome fighter though. So who’s the best he might have beaten ? I would aim for some of the less durable champs like Minter or Antuofirmo.... In fact he might even have a shot at Hearns if he can get to him first. But Jackson chin was shaky as well and Tommy could punch. It’s a hard to thing to predict
Brilliant. Yep I'd say he's got an excellent chance against such as Minter. Hearns and he would be a fight I'd have dribbled over! That power and those chins combined would make for a short, exciting war. Even against Duran at Middle, with his power, who knows?? He had world class power but wasn't an ATG. Graham came extremely close to getting him stopped, I think anyone that could move and jab and has a good chin beats him. On his best day, if he lands right and the stars are aligned, then he's in with a shot at beating a hell of a lot of good light middles and middles.
This. JJ had ungodly power for sure but his boxing nous and chin were far from being at the same level as his heavy punch. I think I'd favour any elite boxer with a chin against him.
Was Graham known for a good chin before Jackson put him to sleep or was he always known as having a weak or average chin who only got away with not being Koed before he met Jackson because he was so elusive and never really got hit before?
Going by memory having followed him somewhat, his chin never came into the equation to be honest. I cant remember anyone ever talking bout his chin before the jackson fight and im sure no one would hold that defeat against him. Nothing wrong with his whiskers really
He'd definitely beat Minter (he had 9 losses). Would have been great to see him take on Duran, Hearns, even Hagler. He has a good chance against RD & TH but would struggle in a war v Hagler, in my opinion.
That's a good question. I think he relied on his snake hips, the same as Prince Naseem. They were both trained by Brendan Ingle..
Although not an ATG, Jackson was a great fighter with ATG power. There are countless middleweight Champs (both past and present) that would get flattened by the Hawk. Only ATG fighters that were durable (Hagler/Monzon, etc) should be prohibitive favorites over Jackson. Otherwise, he has a punchers chance against any fighter his own size.
