If my touch of death continues Jalolov could be in a spot of bother tomorrow.

I kept my predictions pretty conservative before the games because I wasn't all that up on the form guide of every division.
But I was pretty sure Jalolov and Khyzhniak were locks for the gold..with my confidence in the flyweight Zoirov bagging gold not far behind.

I also really liked the look of light heavy Bekzad Nurdauletov. Though with light heavy so piping hot I wasn't brave enough to say he would win. But I at least thought he would medal.

So based on my terrible picking so far, Jalolov is in trouble. :number_one:

And also Andy Cruz was probably the only Cuban before the games who I thought would definitely be taking home the gold.

So he could be up shit creek too

torrez does look in better shape and more confident but he hasnt face jalolov yet. Anyone can land that punch though, especially if your fighting as reckless as khyzaniak. Problem is Jololov will be boxing and torrez will have to be reckless to get inside. He did put a beating on that last kid though. Last guy didnt have jololovs power, size, or boxing ability. Interested to see how that ko effected torrez. If hes gonna be more focused or a lil gunshy. Never know till the bell rings. Good fights though. Souza had a perfect match before khyzhniak to prepare him. That guy was tough aswell.

Well I guess a forecast into Khyzhniak's pro career was shown right there in the final (what a terrible time to learn such a harsh lesson). He's no Golovkin, that's for certain.

Boxing is a thinking mans sport. I dont care who you are, you cant just run over everybody. You gotta be smart. Use your jab, feints, move in, out......that guy was overconfident and a dirty mfer. He got what he deserved. Souza deserves credit for staying calm through the storm. That was pure skill. He was the better more well rounded fighter. That guy was up 2-0 on sheer volume. He wasnt landing the cleaner shots. Souza land some good body shots. Souza had a perfect match up in the semis to prepare him for that one.

Cruz needs to turn pro... seriously. Flee the country!

Imagine adding him to the lightweight mix, oh my god! Lopez/Haney/Loma/Tank/Davis vs Cruz in pro ranks!

Khyzhniak getting stopped is a bit of a surprise. I liked the style of the Brazilian who beat him because he had beaten Bakshi in the semis. Hadn't seen him before that bout. The Ukrainian was winning the final, but walked onto a good one.
    Yafai was a deserving winner.
Golds for Bulgaria and Turkey in the women's compeition. Kinda nice to see the medals go around.

Not sure who I thought I was kidding, planning to stay up until 2am to watch any of these events. My body clock has been set to get up for work at 5:30am for well over a year.

Anyway, penultimate catch-up... after this, only four bouts left in the Olympics, all to decide gold medals! (and only two men's)

    Round 1

Palaam is holding the left stick out rigidly and loading up on right hands to catch Yafai coming in. The southpaw from the blue corner does some nice subtle leans to either side to slip and counter with the southpaw 1-2 and right hook burrowing in close. Palaam down a little over a minute in! Palaam beats the count easily and starts throwing power combos to fend Yafai off. Lead lefts doubled up by Yafai, driving Palaam into the ropes. Right upper-hooks and more left crosses, and Palaam is hurt & holding. This has been a destructive 70-80 last seconds overall for Yafai, with about 40 left for Palaam to survive until the bell. He flurries but is warned by the ref for wrist-slapping at the sides of Yafai's head. Palaam crouches and backs into the ropes throwing desperate haymakers.

    10-8 Yafai
