Never knew Wallau and Dierdorf covered this the night it happened. First time I saw this and I agree was as dramatic, if not more so, than HBO's reaction. This was an unforgettable classic of a fight. At the time I was shocked they stopped it, but in hindsight, Taylor never responded and Steele had no choice. I don't think Steele favored Chavez here. At the time I was furious, but looking back, it was the right thing to do. Taylor's corner gave him bad advice that night going into the last round, though it's doubtful Taylor would have listened anyway even if they had told him to just move. Some have said they think the fight was closer than the commentators had it. I still don't think Chavez was winning many rounds, but he was laying the groundwork that caused the collapse later on, so it paid off in the long run. Taylor fought an entire career in one fight.

Is that so? Wallau is there interviewing Chavez and Steele right after the fight. I assumed he and Dan Dierdorf did live play-by-play as well...
