How does it work with the rights holder, ie the premier league, where they have sold rights to BT but ends up on a different platform?
Still has its cons but without a doubt the best boxing show coverage and production wise there is. Not having Smith and Froch is a huge plus.
Thats a good question and will depend on the terminology of the contract. It may be possible to share the rights if the league agree as it technically would still be seen on BT, just the cost to BT would be lower. Could also be put to the league that BT would go under and the league ends up with nothing. To be honest there all sorts of things that could come through from this. I think DAZN will be a front runner but just not the only runner.
BT Sport just secured Seria A rights. DAZN miss out and are in massive trouble. No meaningful football for at least 3 years. Can't see them lasting much longer.
I know people hate Adam Smith , maybe just me but I don’t see it any better than Sky production ? sky would hype the fights better aswell .
Go back 20 years and this is what happened with ITV Digital. TV company collapsed and left clubs hanging until someone picked up the scraps for a bargain - Sky in their case. Sky wouldn't agree a price in Scotland around the same time and the BBC ended up getting a year's rights for absolute peanuts until Setanta started (then went bust themselves!).
They’re not reliant on the U.K. to survive. Serie A isn’t half as popular over here as it used to be, and they have the rights in Italy which is a far bigger deal for them.
In theory they could sue for not honoring the contract but I don't think the EPL would care as long as they were getting the same money.
Lol Italian football is not a subscription driver. Eleven sports had Serie a and la Liga for £5 a month and guess what nobody subscribed.
No it's not a huge subscription driver but it helps improve value for money. BT lost German league to sky but replaced it with Italian so the average punter who has it for the premier league and champions League gets some value. Suprised dazn didn't go for it. Two or three cards a month at max with some of them bring hardcore only is a hard sell with absolutely nothing else.
So DAZN UK literally has another bar boxing as it hasn't won the rights to anything else, the big fights will still be on Sky Box Office, it's basically Box Nation at the minute,
That’s it. Should be ‘Game Changed unless you want to watch our biggest star, then you have to pay another 25 quid.’
What rights were there to win? Big fights meaning AJ? We don't know what AJ is going after the Usyk fight. If AJ isn't involved what are the other big fights which will be on Sky Box Office?
