Hector Macho Camacho vs Aaron The Hawk Pryor at 140 lbs. 15 rounds.

Simple choice IMO. By the time Camacho was campaigning at 140 he was already sliding. Tho he fought on forever his peak was short and was at 130 and his early days at 135. Pryor decision.

If Pryor was born to fight at 130 he and the 130 pound Camacho would be a sensational matchup.

 

Pryor on points. Hector frustrate s him at times but this is a fight that Pryor looks determined to win.
There's not enough coming back from Camacho for him to win this fight. In fact at times, Hector has to hold on tight after being rocked badly.

 

HAWK TIME!

 

Its boxing anything is possible and Pryor was a talent. But Camacho survived Rosario, survived Chavez, and survived above his best weight post prime against Felix Trinidad and Oscar. Camacho would focus his skills and savy to shelling up and getting on his bike, his goal shifting from winning to seeing the final bell when Pryor begins to press him. I could be wrong but I would bet on Camacho surviving to the last bell.

 

Somewhat surprised at the feedback concerning this fight. I forgot about the Haughen fight and the trouble he gave Camacho. My feeling is that Hector might "steal" a win. Not outfight Pryor but simply do enough early to win the fight, No one can doubt Pryor lasting 15 at full speed but hector throughout his career seemed to hang on in most of the last rounds. Perhaps i am judging him at 135 and below. But didi Pryor ever fight a guy with skills ----I mean avoiding disaster like HC? I believe this battle is closer than most think....

 

Pryor too much for the Camacho that fought at 140 .. Camacho was no longer Macho post Rosario ...

 

As much as I want to like Pryor I just can't.
The black bottle incident was just too much and tarnished a great fight.
I think he was a great fighter and deserves alot of credit.
BUT this whole Leonard avoided him is a reach.
I honestly think that Leonard would have stopped him inside 8 rounds and a Hearns would have been way too big for Pryor and it would have ended in a beat down of Pryor.
Pryor and Leonard sparred a couple of times and it was even at first- think they both dropped each other.
But if my memory serves me correct Leonard wreaked him after that in other sparring.

 

He did. But Hearns wasn't the same fighter he was in the pros - as an amateur he was a hit and run boxer.
In the pros he was completely different.
If I'm not mistaken I think Kenty from Kronk beat Pryor.

 

I think the feedback is about what i would expect for one of the best junior welterweight fighters of all time against a career lightweight.

Depends what you define as “skills”. Arguello, Cervantes were hardly mugs in the skills department, although they weren’t as elusive but they had other skills that Hector didn’t have.

Hanging on against Pryor who was a ruthless finisher was hardly something you would want so do.

The question is at 140 did Hector fight anyone in their prime at 140 with proven power in both hands, ability to go 15 rounds at an honest sometime brutal pace, and win?

Its easy to forget that a prime Pryor was never beaten.

 

Depends on whether Camacho was really motivated to win and trained very seriously. If he did, I'd be inclined to bet cautiously on Hector. Better fighter at his best in my opinion and I'd be inclined to think he could box at a distance and win rounds better than Pryor could swarm and win them.

If Camacho came in like he usually did at 140, then what everybody else is saying.

 

I see Pryor going down once, maybe twice, on flash knockdowns. He was prone to being off-balance with his unorthodox attack and getting felled for short counts.

So I’m going to say I see it very close on the scorecards and I think Macho gets an unpopular decision with some flashy flurries to steal the close rounds, a couple of two-point rounds and Aaron winning his rounds by wide margin but never coming close to felling the durable Camacho.

 

I made my father watch this fight----- i thought he was going to urinate himself when Pryor did that. His quote ''that is one crazy fighter" RIP
