What do you expect Evander to say..."Joe Louis would push my **** in and **** all my baby mamas in the same night?"

I would think most boxers would say that a man would be a challenge but to say just he would destroy a boxer would mean he see that boxer skills would be no match

He would outbox him and likely stop him

Louis is a HOF ATG for his time, I do feel that Holyfield would get the better in a real 15 rounder, I feel a late stoppage. It's just the evolution of boxing - both superb.

Do you have any in mind?

Do you think one would have to look at the super Heavyweight amateurs to find a winner over Louis or could get one from heavyweight? They'd be of similar size to Joe after all and have all that modern skill and whey protein going for them as well. Maybe you could find a winner even lower? Surely there's amateur boxers around leaps and bounds ahead of Billy Conn?

If Joe Louis was boxing today...not single one of you nerds, yes nerds, would bet against him.

Half of you don't even have the sack to make straight predictions on current fights, but come fantasy fights, you're all in.

    Who cares about era...

Louis and Evander are being compared. Both have elite skills and ring IQ that few can match from any era. Louis was more consistent, had quicker hands and KO power, which gives him the edge to me.

Holyfield may have beaten Louis if he fought with intelligence and discipline, but after watching Holyfield from the beginning to the end of his pro career, and a lot of his amateur career , I doubt he'd control his "Warrior" mentality and want to retaliate the minute Louis landed something substantial.
This is where Louis would have his greatest chance, and Holyfield's greatest danger.
I've said many times Louis had a lot of flaws that can be exploited, especially defensively.
But offensively, he may have been the greatest heavyweight in history.
Holyfield had a lot of issues dealing with the fast hands of M.Dokes. Dokes would be the closest fighter in hand speed at heavyweight to prime J.Louis that Holyfield fought.
Dokes was past his prime, and on and off the white powder when he fought Holyfield,Yet he gave him pure hell most of that fight.
If Louis landed on Holyfield what Dokes did, would Holyfield be able to withstand it?
Doubtful. Unlike Dokes, who arm punched sometimes, almost every punch Louis used was perfect with leverage and technique. That's what made him so deadly .
Holyfield said he'd beat Louis, and it could be true because he certainly had the ability.
But that warrior mentality in my opinion would eventually cost him.
Louis would hurt him, Holyfield would automatically try and fight fire with fire, and would in his rush to establish who's in control, walk into something, or stand in one place too long, loading up on his punches and get caught with and beat to the punch by a perfect Louis counter.
Holyfield could beat Louis if he fought smart and patiently. But more than likely with his mentality he walks into something that stops him.

This is a really good post and Flash brings up the major stumbling block when it comes to writing about Holy in fantasy fights...if the man he's facing hits harder, has even a modicum of good hand speed, and takes a very good shot, Holy is not in a good position to unleash his Warrior mentality. He will get eaten up by someone like Louis every time, should he let himself be provoked into that mindset.

Sooo...that could be argued as a summing up. Holyfield was one of the Giants of boxing history, and has more than earned the right to be mentioned in the same breath as the Elite ATGs...Louis, Ali, Holmes, Foreman, Marciano. But there are a lot of fantasy fights where it would be tough for him to overcome being himself.
