If David Tua and Shannon Briggs fought in the late 90s/early 2000s who wins?

Despite being around the same age and having roughly overlapping careers they never fought, both also lost to Lewis. If they did meet how would the fight have gone?

It would be a fun fight, I pick Tua by mid rounds stoppage, while Briggs is ahead on points.

Yes. The only difference is who lost to Lewis and how.
Tua wins. Tua has never been knocked out as a professional, and Shannon Briggs is famous for the number of knockouts in the first round.
Shannon Briggs was never supposed to become the lineal champion, as he defeated the 47-year-old Foreman by robbery.

I’m don’t think Briggs can knockout Tua. He’d have to win a decision. Problem is he wasn’t that good of a boxer and nor could he take it as well as Tua. On the surface this looks like a David Tua win

Shannon Briggs had no stamina and no defence, he might have some good moments early on. But i can't see him lasting the full distance with a prime David Tua, i think Tua stops him within 8-10.

Neither of them are Tire Iron Jones; that's for sure.

Anyway, I don't think Briggs finishes Tua in the first 4 rounds. Prime Tua had much better stamina than Briggs, and was capable of flattening people as well. He was also quite durable. So Tua probably wins.

It would be interesting to see if the 270 pound ambulatory boulder version of Briggs could stop Tua early, though. Or back him off. Lewis got Tua to back off by hitting him hard, and that's one thing Giant Briggs could still do.

The error of man is comparing morals and fighting ability to the current crop of wimps. Tire Iron Jones would be champ in any era after his own.

Briggs really was a walking chemist towards the end I just took a peek at him again. Honestly I think you’re onto something David has a reputation for shelling up and not dogging it out, against Ike neither landed harsh leather if I remember (seen it once?) they just hid behind there guards throwing a lot of punches.

Against the actual swatters David got shy. What we can credit Shannon with is being able to dog it out and have durability of a respectable calibre. One only needs to see there two efforts against Lennox.

I think the way I see it is Shannon will gas and David will get brave or he will box a shy Tua barely getting by but still winning.
