So I was shocked when... DeJesus beat Duran Harrera/ Olivares Braxton/Saad Ali/ Foreman Foreman/ Frazier 1 Monzon/ Benvenuti Sanchez/Lopez 1 Norton/Ali 1 Shibata/ Saldivar you get my drift....
I was shocked on 11-22-1969. Nino Benvenuti knocked out Luis Rodriguez in the 11th round, with one dramatic shot, a tremendous left hook. I was almost certain that Rodriguez was well on his way to victory and thought it would be a minor miracle if the bloody, glassy eyed Benvenuti survived the Rodriguez assault in the 11th. Then, almost out of nowhere ....... BANG! Lights out for Rodriguez!
the end of the Tate, Weaver fight. Watson, Benn De La Hoya vs Sturm Lewis,Tyson Gatti, PBF should have been a more competitive fight for Arturo...
Seeing my hometown hero Michael Spinks get KO in the first round was shocking for me as a kid. It wasn't that he lost, it was how he lost that shocked me. I still remember my dad being pissed after buying that pay per view.
Blown away with Foreman knocked the hell out of Frazier, whom at the time was being touted as the new Joe Louis. Deliriously happy though shocked that Ali knocked out Foreman. Extremely excited when a fighter I've never see before, fought his greatest fight and beat Ken Norton...Larry Holmes. But the Ali Foreman thing was most unbelievable for me. It was the greatest heavyweight victory to the present day imo.
... when Foreman ko'd Moorer, Machen decisioned Quarry, old Deek Tiger decisioned Jose Torres to win the LH title, Backus defeated Napoles, Tom Bethea TKO'd Benvenuti, Giulio Rinaldi defeated Archie Moore, Douglas defeated Tyson, Willie Pastrano defeated Harold Johnson, Don Fullmer defeated Joey Archer and Emile Griffith (I'm still not high on any of the three Fullmer brothers). I didn't see most of these fights at the time, but I was following boxing religiously through the daily newspapers and magazines (mostly The Ring and Boxing Illustrated -- still my two favorites of all time along with Boxing and Wrestling), and I remember being surprised when I read about them. There are others too, but these stand out right now.
I’m not as old as some of you- but one that was pretty surreal but nowhere near as legendary as the above was the shocking ease that Floyd had with Manny.
The only two I can comment on, because of my age and when I started following boxing, are Braxton - Saad I and Sanchez - Lopez I. Braxton - Saad didn't surprise me at all. Saad had been in so many wars and had snatched victory from the jaws of defeat so many times that Braxton, who was steamrolling (my new favorite word) everyone at the time, seemed to be in a no-lose situation. Now Michael Spinks - Braxton surprised me. Sanchez - Lopez I was a shock. I thought Sanchez was just another WBC fighter out of nowhere that Lopez would have no trouble with. After Sanchez looked so great in the first fight, I was surprised that the second fight was tougher for him.
When Toney knocked out Nunn. When Honeyghan dethroned Curry. When Douglas stopped Tyson. When Barkley knocked out Hearns I cried. When Haughen beat Paul. When Phillips stopped Kostya
Haugen defeating Camacho was surprising too, but maybe not as much as the Paul fight since Greg had accomplished quite a bit by then.
