I'd put Naz up there too if he counts as this generation.

And the winner of Casamayor vs Marquez is def up there to.

Everything you say is valid (unlike most of the bile that gets posted on here), I do respect your opinions, I just disagree it seems. But hey, that's what makes a forum worthwhile I suppose.

I am sticking to my guns on Tapia being at least neck-and-neck with Joe. 3 weight world champion, fought anyone and everyone around at the time he was. Quality fighter.

Hopkins's quality opponents 1996-2000: Glen Johnson
The rest included: William James, Bo Lipsey, Steve Frank, 2 fights with Antwun Echols, Syd Vanderpool

Hopkins's quality opponents 2001-2004: Felix Trinidad (stopped), Oscar De La Hoya (stopped).
Also beat world champions Keith Holmes (unified titles), Joppy.

It's subjective, but I think he ripened with age up until 2004, and had been slowly declining since.

And with regards to Holyfield, OK, maybe he did still look pretty good v Tyson and Moorer in 1997, but that really was the end of him as a potent force, and that was the year Joe won a world title, so their careers at the top overlapped by months within the same year. Holyfield was certainly not as good as he was in late 80s or early 90s though, and Calzaghe had years to improve before he reached a career peak. So, can they really be considered the same era/generation? I definitely think not.
Many fighters' careers overlap (Holmes, Foreman, Duran, Chavez, SR Leonard, Hearns all fought in the 1990s so their careers overlapped with De La Hoya, Trinidad, Barrera) but that doesn't mean they were part of the same era/generation.

    ROY JONES JR - ok.
    MANNY PACQUIAO - debatable.
LENNOX LEWIS - debatable, but I would say ok.
BERNARD HOPKINS - debatable, but I would say no.
JAMES TONEY - debatable, I would say no. He has the fanatic fans, but didn't have the dominance in a weight class like Joe and Hopkins and his other divisions he sort of met soso fighters. When Jirov is your best win for the last 10 years or so .. then nah..
ERIK MORALES - debatable, but I would say no. Again, he has a loyal latino following, but in my book, nah.
SHANE MOSLEY - debatable, but nah. Joe is afterall unbeaten over a decade. The first ever to unify SMW and so on and on. Nah.
    MARCO ANTONIO BARRERA - ok.
    JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ - no.
KOSTYA TSZYU - debatable. Kostya was good, but he didn't have the dominance really. Debatable.
    FELIX TRINIDAD - no.
OSCAR DE LA HOYA - debatable. ODLH is a strange case because much of his career is smokes and mirrors with cherry picking and Sturms here and there. Difficult to compare the two.
    RICARDO LOPEZ - no.
    WINKY WRIGHT - no.
FLOYD MAYWEATHER - debatable, but despite the cherry picking Floyd is a great fighter and I think he would beat Cotto, Pac etc. so I would say ok.
JOHNNY TAPIA - debatable, but probably not.

I don't believe I've ever seen a more pointless post in my entire life!!!

Of course it's my opinion, this is a forum and I started a thread! I laid out my opinion, I asked for people's thoughts on it. Thanks very much for clarifying that difficult concept for everyone.

Definites who were clearly clearly greater fighters in my opinion by judging them on my criteria:
JONES JR, HOPKINS, MAYWEATHER, PACQUIAO, LEWIS, MORALES, BARRERA, LOPEZ

In my opinion they were pound-for-pound better fighters, but I accept my opinion is debatable over these:
TONEY, MOSLEY, WRIGHT, TAPIA, MARQUEZ, TSZYU, TRINIDAD, DE LA HOYA

joe didnt have many good fights out there for him.and when good fights came about frank warren kept him fighting bums and ruined his career.at least now he is having some good fights to make up for lost time .shame it wasnt when he was in his prime.he is still an ATG imo.

No, he isn't. 3 fights don't make a career (and he wasn't good v Hopkins anyway). If he beats Pavlik, he has a strong case for being top 10 of his era. Is that what you consider an ATG? Up to you.
