I can't say as Gibbons is barely filmed. Quarry seemed good at outboxing the sluggers and outslugging the boxers, but always had trouble against a good jab. That's why I would never even pick a peak Quarry to beat Norton.

Kenny Norton by a knockout in 3 or 4 rounds.

He'd have to borrow someone else's chin to make it past Dempsey in the 1st round.

Ken Norton could not cope with big punchers. As a result, Norton was made for someone like Jack Dempsey.

He would catch Dempsey coming in and stop him in his tracks. Norton was bigger but also faster and had fluid coordination for a good size heavyweight. Kenny not only bigger, stronger but also the better boxer. With more than enough power to get the job done. We never saw Dempsey in with a fighter like Norton. Had he fought and beaten Harry Wills there would be more of a measure to say he could handle Ken Norton who fought many good and great fighters.

I'm not entirely opposed to this scenario. All the talk is how Norton survives Dempsey but Norton is unlike anything Jack has ever seen before as well. Big size advantage, can fight and he's hardly featherfisted. The majority of his opponents never saw the final bell.

The jaw breaker would defeat Dempsey the same way Chris Algeri beat Provodnikov

Mauler never faced somebody with good timing and counter punching ability. Jacks aggression is tamed once he's popped by shots he didn't see coming on the way in

Not saying they are relevant in this thread, but...

Tunney and Gibbons didn't have good timing and counter punching ability?

Come on be serious. Norton was basically matching quickness with Ali. At least in the same ballpark. Dempsey may have been quick compared to a Jess Willard or Carl Morris but not the speedy guys that came along later.

Norton didn't beat Ali because he matched his speed.

If brought together by a time machine, prime versus prime, hard to say. f they fought three times, I'd give Norton his best chance in the first meeting.

If one born into the others time and developed, in ratio to the opportunities of the time, as they had in their own historical time, I'd definitely favor prime Dempsey against a late-10's/early 20's Norton, and definitely favor a 70's Dempsey against Norton.

He beat Ali because of awkwardness in style. Not because he was faster than Ali.
