Former stable mates, now both “World Champions”. (Leigh Wood holds a “regular” belt). They both won titles within a week of each other during fight camp and at first it was quite respectful, now though it seems to be spiralling. You’ve got several little snipes at each other and I was thinking this was Eddie manufacturing it for a big domestic clash but then you’ve got Saunders tweeting how he would love to see it as you’d finally get Ingle vs Davison (is there something there?). Now Leigh Wood has took it personal (and rightly so). He’s digged out Barry for being a drugs cheat. Im all for these domestic clashes, especially when both are champions and with the same promoter there’s not excuse for it not to happen.
Barry's World title defence is due in November. He says he'll fight Wood, Wood is in the top 15, it's an easy fight to make but I don't think that Wood wants the smoke.
Look at it from Woods point of view. He likely loses to Kid. He has a shot but he’s the underdog. his contract with matchroom will essentially be for double his last purse as he’s now a world champ. Just speculation of course but he can fight Barry for £200k. Lose and back to square one. or he can defend in a voluntary for £80-100k then fight Barry for same money. or he can wait it out see if Leo Santa Cruz comes back. Maybe he gets ordered to fight him and he cashes out on £500k upwards. Wood would be sensible to hold off the Barry fight until next year atleast.
If Wood stays on the WBA route I think he has to rematch Can. His quickest route to a genuine World title could be Barry in a few weeks. He's playing to the football fanbase on social media but I doubt he wants anything of Barry.
The whole "drug cheat" chat on this forum is the worst chat going. Especially low for pro boxers who are also on the hot sauce to dismiss others for utilising sauce. So pathetic. The inconsistency is especially funny considering these same people will brown nose outed users like Alvarez and blatant big pharma puppets like Dosh.
Think your right. Is it also in China? Financially makes a lot of sense. Certainly if he holds it for good.
Two unproven at real world level, domestic level fighters with garbage belts. Both need to fight a Navarette, Russell Jr or Santa Cruz and prove they are a legit world champ. This current Featherweight division reminds me of when the light welterweight division had weak Euro level champs like Rees, Mbaye, Kotelnik, Witter, Khan,
I don't support anyone who's been caught. The day they get caught is the day I'll stop supporting them. Don't care who they are. Easy to say everyone is on them but can only go on who's actually been caught.
