I think it's that simple. The Mayweathers don't give credit where credit is due. A lot of people don't. I've never heard Ray Leonard attribute the bolo punch he is known for to guys that came before him: Jose Napoles, Sugar Ray Robinson, and of course Kid Gavilan.

Does Mayweather know who Victor Galindez is?

And Benton was before Galindez. That doesn't make either Galindez or Mayweather a punk. Just means they took something that worked for Benton and made it work for themselves.

Unhn uh. Galindez learned from the greatest defensive fighter in the last 100 yrs, countyman Nicoleno Loche. Benton is nothing to the Argentine greats.

My point is that all of those guys took technique and skills from another fighter and made it their own. No argument that Loche was a defensive genius. All four guys were in their own way.

I'm not going to defend Mayweather. He certainly has done plenty of shitty things in his lifetime. His counter right hand off the shoulder roll likely was influenced more by fellow Michigan fighter James Toney who learned it from Bill Miller who was close with Ezzard Charles and well...you get the point. It is a technique that has evolved over time.

There was probably someone before Galindez.

Btw I know when the post is in all caps we are dealing with a loose cannon.

I don’t think Sugar Ray Leonard has ever claimed to have invented the bolo punch

    It’s DeLuise.

    And Aykroyd (two Ys).

Don’t diminish this masterpiece of a film by not getting their names right.
