If I was ever to teach a kid how to handle a puncher with least amount of pain, or to simply introduce someone to the Artistic side of boxing, it would be Holmes-Shavers I. Larry was simply brilliant in that fight, showing a ring maturity far beyond his youth. A stellar, perfect performance imo. Though Larry became a much better puncher and even more intelligent as the years went by, I'm not sure any other, one fight can better illustrate his skills. Shavers didn't have a chance...I don't think any puncher would have that night (yeah, I mean that).
I’ve always thought that Holmes right hand, whether thrown as a cross or uppercut was underrated and had deceptive power to it.
It seemed like he threw that cross on a regular cadence as a good thudding punch and then sometimes he’d zip it in with a little extra speed and mustard and it would just explode off a guy’s chin.
Holmes is one of my favourite HW I liked him a lot more then Ali as a man and as an entertainer. I liked his grit, his story and his will to win.
Get outta here- everybody knows Holmes is below Dempsey and Rocky, It can't go Rocky, Holmes, Jaack what dumb list.
