Saunders did quit but I don't think it showed any lack of heart. It was the right thing to do. It was a terrible injury and he was in with a brilliant fighter. That one punch effectively knocked him out of the fight. I'm still far less convinced by the Dubois incident. Whether Dubois had a fracture or not, he seemed to be losing heart from very early on in the fight. And yet he was still in the fight towards the end. He also failed to state immediately what had induced him to take the count. Dubois is still quite unproven. It's reasonable to question his heart. He'll be back and has a chance to prove his heart in his career going forward.
The excuses from Brent Davison have started. Is he BJS trainer again or did he just see an opportunity to get into the limelight again? Wonder what Mark Tibbs thinks of Brent sticking his nose in again.
Mark has confirmed that he and BJS will not be working together again. I don’t think we’ll see Saunders again, Canelo literally caved his face in with one punch.
Great post. Had a really good career that could have even been better - some of it his fault and some of it wasn't. He relies on reflexes alot which will undoubtedly slowdown as he ages and this will not be good for him. Has nothing to be ashamed of other then talking a little too much but all of us in life have done that from time to time.
Has the warrior who would never quit, still not apologised for jumping in on the pile ons calling Dubois a quitter? There was a real poetic justice in how Clenelo ended his career. I think he has completely gone into hiding now because real people have been challenging him on this. The shame and embarrassment is too much for him to take.
We will never see him box again end of. What in all honesty is going to get him back in a ring, he is a multi millionaire he is probably the most unfit he has ever been and probably not seen a gym since the fight. He wouldn't risk losing to eubank for all the money in the world and he would never take that fight for his first fight back. No way he will be bothered to have a warm up either. Let's be honest the lad has done well for himself made a **** load of money and is effectively retired at 32 His disappearing act speaks volumes about what really happened that night, but let's be honest if the injuries are genuine and I think they are.then not continuing was the only option
BJS seems like he's got some investments which might prevent him from going broke in the future. He fought Canelo and i don't think he'd ever reach those heights again unless he was given a rematch where he's in a fighting fit state from a physical and mental standpoint. I think mentally he won't ever be the same now when he's in the boxing ring. He'll probably second guess himself and always be wary of being hit in the eye. I think from a physical standpoint Billy Joe has never really been consistent throughout his career. He really looked the best in his David Lemueix fight. He also looked a bit slower in the Canelo fight even though he didn't do terribly i feel he could have performed much better if it was at 160 and he dedicated himself to be in better shape. I think he was on the slide before he fought Canelo and didn't fight boxers like Andrade and Jacobs who may have helped him perform better and get him in better shape to fight Canelo. He may have lost those both in hindsight and his meal ticket would have been gone. He picked up an easy trinket against a sub par boxer to earn a belt at super middleweight and he never had the fights to truly prepare him for Canelo. He's been promoted very well in his career and outside of a Canelo rematch i don't think he should bother coming back to put himself through a tough training camp. Eubank Jr is a conman and a hypocrite. He's not worth fighting imo. Eubank Jr preys on shot, past it or sub par boxers to validate himself as the real deal. The first fight was relatively close because of Billy Joe's gas tank. If he had better stamina he'd have won every round against him. He's had a good career who probably could have added one or two more marquee wins to his resume. I think overall he's been promoted brilliantly by Frank and Eddie and i don't think he could have asked for more.
B Interesting to hear BJS on his latest IFL video. Seems Ben pulled him from the fight and Mark Tibbs didn't even turn up to the hospital after the fight.
