It’s interesting how a fighters mentality develops. Moorer really was a bully at times. He had a very fragile ego and a lot of typical antisocial traits- sometimes he’d melt with anxiety in the ring then there are the Dempsey’s of the world who channel that fear into animal ferocity and not let it cost them.
Fitz could get a lucky knockout, but moorer wins 95 percent of the time imo, better fundamentals, better athlete, much faster, ect but you can never count out a puncher
Neither was a proper HW size wise. All the available footage on Youtube, he looks like he's completely clueless out there, like a weak amateur at best. It's not about the skull getting thicker, it's about Moorer being bigger, stronger and better prepared than Fitzsimmons's usual opponents. No he did not. He hit hard to stop the small men of his era, not the modern size HWs
All were big enough to be compared to Moorer at LHW. Yeah, the man who fought for over 30 years in professional boxing at the highest stage was "clueless"... Have you ever thought that maybe your talent evaluation isn't as good as you may think? Fitzsimmons fought bigger and stronger opponents than Moorer. The matchup is at LHW, not at HW. Moorer at LHW wasn't bigger than Fitzsimmons opponents.
