What will be Plant's strategy for Canelo? Will he run like Lara or stand like Callum Smith? If he try to run like Lara, his body gonna be mauled. Because Canelo cuts the ring far better than ever before. If he stands and at his back foot, he gonna be mauled even worse. There seems to be no scenario where he can beat Canelo. He gonna throw his jabs hopelessly and try to outbox Canelo.
His tactics are not to run. His tactics are and should be to outbox Canelo at range, mid range and on the inside with defensive responsibility at all times.
Plant can easily beat Canelo if he comes in with a good gameplan , he's got all the tools but whether he can use them effectively or not is the question , idk why whenever a fighter starts appearing dominant people act like there's no way to beat him. Plant needs to feint a lot , establish his jab and a counterpunch(say the right hand) and use his shoulder roll to catch shots whenever he's on the ropes. Good feinting is the key to success here , that'll keep him from getting run over.
This is more about Plant sucking than anything else. He's garbage and he's a garbage beltholder. Clenelo gonna kill this dude.
He hasn't got all the tools to beat Canelo. Stamina, punch power, inside game and being pressure fighter are four keys to beat Canelo. Plant hasn't got any of them. Canelo uses both close guard+head movement against taller guys. It is extremely difficult to hit Canelo cleanly with jab and especially power punch. Plant also has a lot of defensive deficiencies. He is making some stupid mistakes. He is not that good in shoulder roll technique. He gonna be KOed or lose by UD.
If he runs or backs up, Canelo will cut him off and counter him all night. Box at range and use angles and MAINTAIN distance.
Absolutely no doubt , but I feel he has the tools, using them effectively is another matter altogether and that's what I wrote in the above post. However he'll most probably fight scared and run his head or liver into a punch sooner or later.
I think Plant's best gameplan is to pick a soft spot on the canvas to lie down on and take some headache tablets just before the fight.
I usually get more excited about a fight as we get closer to the date. Decided to not buy this one because I just don’t see Plant being competitive. Might change my mind but I doubt it. I don’t hate either guy but wish this fight would have stayed cancelled. Beterbiev or Bivol wouod have been better opponents. At least they have power. Canelo is better in every category than Plant except maybe speed. Plant has speed but he usually doesn’t have much behind his punches. Canelo is fast enough and is a good counter puncher. Combine that with his history of “good fortune” on the cards and I don’t see a path to victory for Plant.
He can't knock him out so he will have to aim to out point him over 12. Maintain his philly shell and jab/slip/counter his way through 36 minutes.
I can see a jab and run situation, using quick footwork. If Plant pulls off the upset, I see it a UD for Plant in this fashion, if he KOs Canelo I'll give everybody on this thread 100 dollars.
