For such a big city in the UK, why has it produced so few top boxers? I'm somewhat of a casual, but I'm struggling to think of many other than Lee Haskins that have gone on to win any World titles in recent times

Since Catley there have been very few. Lack of boxing club promotion maybe

I'm from Bristol. Ross Hale had some hype growing up - until scrap iron came along

Who are the top sportsmen from the city in any sport?

Judd Trump is the only one i can think of, off the top of my head.

Adrian Stone won the IBO although he spent a lot of his career in the states.

It’s a strange city for sport. Massive catchment area and affluent population but no Prem football team despite easily being able to sustain one.

They’ve had recent success with Rugby but it’s never been a massive sporting city despite its size.

Think the small hall scene has had its fair share of unscrupulous promoters which has a massive impact on a city's ability to feed up champions

How Bristol City haven’t been in the Premiership yet is baffling. Went to their stadium a couple years ago and it’s absolutely fabulous. Plus their chairman is a multi-billionaire.

    weird.

Pretty sure Lee Haskins was from Bristol.

Not sure if this is a dig at Chris Sanigar who is also from Bristol and the main promoter in the south west or aimed further down the line

Think they will get there in next 5 years. Everything is ready for them to get there. Finally looking better under Nigel Pearson.

Ross Hale, Glenn Catley, Dean Francis (Basingstoke but Bristol trained), Jane Couch, Adrian Stone, Joe Hughes and Lee Haskins are the main ones. Inconsistent amateur clubs are a major factor in bringing talent through, professional set up is good but very little talent walks through the door and there aren't any full time trainers in place.

There's also no medium sized (5k) indoor venue to bridge the gap between small hall and stadium which doesn't help in terms of building and audience or holding onto fighters.
