As Larry Holmes did? Jones who beat Ruiz verse Mercer, who lost to Holmes. Who takes this? I'm going with Jones Gettin a decision over Ray, but not without a few scary moments.
I think he might. Jones is fast enough to avoid most of the incoming. That said Mercer has a long track record of catching up to guys that were beating him down and wrecking them. RJJ better pitch a shut out or Mercer will pull his plug out. Wouldn't bet on this fight.
It's a more dangerous fight for Jones than Ruiz, that's pretty obvious. I still think Roy can get the decision win but he has to be careful he doesn't end the same way has T Morrison!
Jones Jr. Knew he had an opponent who would not be very aggressive in Ruiz, and wouldn't take advantage of his substantial size advantage. Mercer wouldn't just stand their waiting for the perfect opportunity to punch against Jones. Sometimes a fighter must create the opportunity by aggression. Mercer would be aggressive. Jones Jr wouldn't have the fire power to dissuade Mercer for long, eventually he would get nailed and the obvious advantages of the naturally bigger man would see Jones ko'ed by the 10th rd. Jones would run, but wouldn't be able to hide for 12 or 15rds.
Ehhhh Ruiz stood at range getting picked off. Mercer would press the issue and i think he'd KO Jones although it would be competitive
Yeah, thinking about this I also lean towards Mercer. He developed a fairly useful jab and once he dialled in the range was quite dangerous. I still think Jones 'could' do it, but if he did he'd have to be on fire that night.
Kinda missmatch for both if you ask me. Mercer hasn't the footwork to catch Jones, Jones hasn't the chin to withstand Mercers power. I say 50/50. RJJ has better chances vs. Holmes (like Spinks did it before)
He MIGHT and i stress MIGHT have beaten an out of shape overconfident Mercer like the one who fought Holmes and Ferguson (first fight). The one who brawled with Lewis would have destroyed him.
Mercer walks through every shot and just beats the sh1t out of RJJ not even with a bat in this scenario will Jones win. This would be like my little brother (9) trying to stop me clipping him upside the ears... He could punch me in the balls to stun me for about 3 seconds before he regrets it.
