Seldon was the WBA champion. Tyson was the WBC champion. Why wasn't their fight for the WBA and WBC titles? Tyson didn't relinquish the WBC belt until two weeks after he fought Seldon. If the WBC wouldn't sanction Tyson defending the title against Seldon then why didn't they strip Tyson of the belt as soon as the Seldon fight had been agreed?
Boxrec says the fight was for Seldon's WBA belt. Also, during Jimmy Lennon's pre-fight announcements he said Seldon was defending his title.
Yes, I know. Which is the reason I asked why both titles weren't on the line when Tyson was still the WBC Champion.
I'm sure someone else can come up with a better, more technical reason regarding sanctioning fees, etc. But I'm settling for "the sanctioning bodies are corrupt and were again flying by the seat of their pants and making decisions that have no basis in any known reality." They haven't deserved any kind of recognition since 1978 at the latest and I don't pay much attention to them. It was basically a (controversial) bout between two top10 heavyweight contenders that would've aired on Wide World of Sports if it had been held 25 years earlier.
I’m sure glad much of the cyber boxing zone is still up. As I understand it, the forum is gone. Not just inactive, but deleted. If true, it’s a real shame. There were a lot of excellent higher level discussions there. Any idea if it’s archived anywhere?
