Meanwhile you have seasoned promoters like Eddie Hearn saying they would struggle to pay Amir Khan and Kell Brook $5,000,000 apiece if they were to fight..... It makes ZERO sense how the numbers are stacking up, unless there is something underhand going on or some serious financial massaging involved.
Vitor has ONE speed; start fast and explosive so the other guy can't time him coming in. Holyfield stood zero chance.
1) The fact the governing bodies even gave Holyfield a licence to fight at 58 is shocking 2) The fact Evander is willing to dilute his legacy with this type of sham is even worse 3) How the hell is the money stacking up for this stuff - alongside that other sham with show-pony Haye looking to fleece the mugz out of yet more green? Coupled with the Valdez robbery it's been a shameful weekend for the state of the sweet science
Fournier paid him out of hand, he wanted the experience of being carried 8 rounds vs a real former boxer.
I suspect this must be closer to what happened. None of it makes sense. How does triller pay each fighter so much when there’s surely only a very limited audience for it. Haye is completely shot, everyone knows this after Bellew but still how does someone who is roughly the same age and fought at a lighter weight against 10 bin men honestly think he has a chance in a serious bout.
It seemed liked Holyfield couldn’t stand up for a round, rather than the fact he took punches. Sad sight to see a great fighter reduced to that. He still doesn’t seem to accept it either.
The owner of Triller Ryan Kavanaugh has been accused by his ex business partner of running a ponzi scheme. 5 million seems extremely unlikely. I doubt we'd ever see any substantial proof on what Holyfield actually will earn for this fight.
People that age tend to be stubborn. My dad is 71 years old and losing his hearing but he still thinks he can work the same hours he used to when he was younger and refuses to listen to anyone who gives him any sensible medical advice. Getting old sucks and the ego never dies.
At this point, I doubt he can help himself. If people are going to keep throwing large amounts of money at Holyfield to have exhibition fights against the likes of Roy Jones, Mike Tyson, James Toney etc, then Holyfield will continue to delude himself into thinking he can still go.
