Ranking which heavyweights had the best attribute in these categories in your opinion. Mine are: Power: Foreman Hand Speed: Patterson Footwork/Foot Speed: Ali Upper Body Movement: Tyson Head Movement: Tyson Reflexes: Ali Chin: Ali Stamina: Marciano Heart: Holyfield Jab: Holmes Combination Punching: Tyson (Louis close 2nd) Body Work: Tyson Defense: Byrd Offense: Tyson Ring IQ: Louis Timing: Louis Accuracy: Louis Counter-Punching: Holmes Inside-Fighting: Marciano/Frazier (can't decide which) Mid-Range Fighting: Tyson Outside-Fighting: Ali
I am not sure. I think Louis was a better combination puncher than Tyson, I would give the Ring IQ to Gene Tunney, Speed can be part in 2, foot and hand, I may give Patterson or Dempsey the hand speed, and give Ali foot speed, Heart?? All ATGS would have the same value of heart. Holmes had a great jab, but I also think Louis, Liston, Tunney and others had a good jab as well. Defense, I would give to Jack Johnson, Offense to either Marciano or Dempsey, Schmeling has a good argument of being the best counter puncher in the heavyweights.
I mostly agree. Here is my version. Power: Foreman (yes, he can hurt guys with all kinds of punches in the book + almost all variations of them) *Speed: Handspeed: Patterson Upper body: Tyson Overall: Ali Chin: 1: Chuvalo, 2: Ali / Marciano Stamina: Marciano Heart: Holyfield Footwork: Ali, Jab: Holmes, Liston Combination Punching: Tyson / Morrison Body Work: Tyson Defense: Byrd Offense: Tyson Ring IQ: Schmeling, Ali, Patterson Timing: Louis Counter-Punching: Holyfield, Schmeling Inside-Fighting: Marciano/Frazier (can't decide which) Mid-Range Fighting: Tyson Outside-Fighting: Ali / Holmes
Power: Foreman Speed: Tyson/Ali/Louis Chin: Ali Stamina: Marciano Heart: Holyfield Footwork: Wlad Jab: Holmes Combination Punching: Louis Body Work: Marciano Defense: Wlad Offense: Liston Ring IQ: Tunney/Archie Moore Timing: Louis Counter-Punching: Marciano Frazier tyson Inside-Fighting: Frazier Mid-Range Fighting: Tyson Outside-Fighting: Lewis
Speed: Dempsey. The quality of the videos can be deceiving. Dempsey was lightning fast in arms and legs. Chin: Jeffries and Chuvalo. Jeffries took tremendous beatings without going down. Chuvalo, 93 fight, never down. Ali had great chin, but not at this level. He was put Ko by Cooper and saved by the bell, was knocked down by Wepner and Norton, in Frazier III no longer able to continue and was saved from the opponent's retreat Power: Perhaps we should distinguish by type of punch. Uppercut right Foreman, right cross Baer, Marciano, left hook Jeffries and Dempsey etc.
It's debatable. It's definitely between these 2 when it comes to the best combination puncher in heavyweight history. It's not even up for debate. However, I favour Tyson because he had a better variety of combinations (i.e the bolo uppercut), used angles to throw unpredictable combinations & threw unorthodox punches that Louis couldn't imagine Not true. They all have heart, but different levels. Some have more than others They do, but I'm saying who I feel had the best jab. Imo Holmes True in that case Handspeed: Patterson Footspeed: Ali Meh. The tapes are not clear enough to see how good his defense was Good shoutouts Very true
He was fast, but faster than Louis, Patterson, Ali & Tyson? Those guys had great chins, but let's clear some misconceptions about Ali. He was green as grass against Cooper, he was never dropped by Norton & the Wepner knockdown should have been ruled a slip (he tripped over his foot). Just power in general. Imo it's Foreman. Yours?
Power: Foreman Hand Speed: Patterson Footwork/Foot Speed: Ali Upper Body Movement: Moore Head Movement: Frazier Reflexes: Ali Chin: Baer Stamina: Marciano Heart: Holyfield Jab: Holmes Combination Punching: Louis Body Work: Jeffries Defense: Johnson Offense: Louis Ring IQ: Schmeling Timing: Louis Accuracy: Louis Counter-Punching: Schmeling Inside-Fighting: Frazier Mid-Range Fighting: Tyson Outside-Fighting: Wladimir I'd add clinching: Johnson
Power: - if it's about punching power: Wlad - if it's about out-muscling opponents: Lewis Speed: - handspeed: Tyson,Patterson, Ali, Tubbs Chin: Vitali, McCall, Tyson Stamina: Marciano Heart: Marciano Footwork: Ali Jab: Liston Combination Punching: Tyson by a mile Body Work: Tyson Defense: Tyson Offense: Tyson/Liston Ring IQ: Ali Timing: Ali Counter-Punching: Tyson, Holyfield Inside-Fighting: Bowe Mid-Range Fighting: Tyson Outside-Fighting: Lewis, Ali, Holmes
Someone show me the time frame of multiple fights that went deep into rounds where Mike Tyson had this great head and upper body movement consistently.
Power: George Foreman Hand Speed: Joe Louis Footwork/Foot Speed: Muhammad Ali Upper Body Movement: Joe Frazier Head Movement: Muhammad Ali Reflexes: Muhammad Ali Chin: George Chuvalo Stamina: Rocky Marciano Heart: Evander Holyfield / Joe Frazier Jab: Larry Holmes Combination Punching: Joe Louis Body Work: Mike Tyson Defense: Jack Johnson Offense: Joe Louis Ring IQ: Gene Tunney Timing: Joe Louis Accuracy: Joe Louis Counter-Punching: Sam Langford Inside-Fighting: Riddick Bowe Mid-Range Fighting: Sonny Liston Outside-Fighting: Larry Holmes / Muhammad Ali / Lennox Lewis
