If Tyson and Holyfield fought a third time it would have been a pretend fight were they agreed not to hurt each other like the Tyson vs Jones fight. Just a fun show for fans. Old man Tyson is humble enough to know the right thing to do in these exhibitions. He knows its just playing. Last night we had a MMA guy who felt like he needed to prove something, so he went in with full force. That's when these old guys would get hurt. When one of them thinks its a real fight.
I think it's a bit of both in the case of Holyfield unfortunately. I'd say "need" not wants a payday though. SMH
I'd forgotten how at the end of Holyfield 's career he was getting pasted by fringe player Tank Williams when he quit on his stool and somehow got an nc. Add another decade of deterioration and it's no surprise he is easy meat for a much younger guy with a point to prove. More fool him for agreeing to an opponent like that.
This is the bottom line. A third fight, had it happened, would have proven nothing. It's clear Holyfield, at nearly 60, has nothing left. Wow, that's a shocker. As someone who's about the same age as Evander, I can tell you there's a big difference between mid-50s and 60 for many of us. Although Tyson's "fight" was more of an exhibition, against a similarly aged opponent, those years do make a difference.
Have you people forgotten that Tyson-Jones was an exhibition? Had Tyson-Holyfield happened again and it still might at some point, that will be an exhibition where both fighters hold back. Glorified sparring session that goes no faster or harder than the weakest link of the two can handle at this point.
I actually bought that PPV. To this day it stands out as the worst PPV I've ever purchased. Evander claimed he couldn't see from a cut (that was barely visible), hence the no contest. That fight was shaping up to be a blowout.
Should have been a refund. He was taking too many from Williams that I recall and didn't like it. Had one more outing against Danish pastry Grandpa Nielsen.
Tyson would have demolished Vitor too. Tyson's power and technique are still far superior to Vitor's.
It would mean nothing if Tyson beat Holyfield now, it would mean as much as Bob from down the road beating Bill from round the corner, all that counts is the actual fights what they had when they were still at the top of their game, it would prove nothing if they fought now
