Only a couple of good standard fighters away from being very thin IMO, obviously the Olympians will probably sign for Hearn but we’ve seen the pace he moves guys like Butasi.

do you think Hearn is close to being worried or is his focus America ?

If his focus is America he’s in even more trouble than I thought.

I might be missing something but isnt dazn a tv provider in that you dont need to be signed to hearn in order to fight on it.

If they pay enough pretty sure fighters from any promoter will fight on it. I dont know enough about it tbh or how complicated making that happen is...but looks to me like he,ll maybe just concentrate on providing good fights for dazn...regardless of who promotes the fighters. Could be wrong tho.

He's just going through a rough patch I think, with some decent fighters nearing the end of their careers and the new ones yet to build a profile. Things should be better when the new crop of Olympians come through.

If Matchroom UK is thin I’d like to see how you describe the other stables!

unfortunately it represents the level of British boxers at the minute. It’s partly down to retirements and the last cycle of Olympians not really stepping up.

Cordina and Buatsi have always looked good but failed to deliver so far.

Okolie the obvious exception with a world title.

Fowler has been a major disappointment.

Josh Kelly, lost to a top fighter but many seen it coming long before that.

Joe Joyce has only really just came to the limelight now. 4/5 years later.

Hopefully we get a bit more from this new batch about to turn over.

Just highlighting matchroom because they are number 1 in the UK but with Sky making moves I think the whole game changed thing from Eddie could end up being a disappointment due to his fighters leaving .

Hearns stable is thin but not as bad as his rival. All the olympicans are going to matchroom imo. Warren should have been better competition than he has been because of the weaker cards he has put on and not great at selling his fighters. Sky should be alot better at this and there first card has a decent undercard but a poor main.

I don't think we have the depth in the country to have 3 pro stables plus team GB and even the channel 5 stuff.

Not without a dilution of quality anyway.

Joshua and Okolie are on Sky next fight. Is Galahad the only UK 3 minute round World Champion that Eddie has for DAZN?

Agreed. Although on the flip side, if you go by Olympics and amateur championships things are pretty good at the moment in the UK in comparison to where we've been in the past.

To me, the key point isn't the standard, it's the matchmaking. Think of the Hennesey fights on Channel 5 last week. Thrilling stuff, even if the pesky purists amongst us will take issue with Eggington's tactic of stopping punches with his face. We have more than enough pro boxers in this country to deliver cards stacked with entertaining fights at different levels and they don't all have to be world title fights. We just need less of the televising of:

    tune-ups
    removing ring rust
    learning fights

and other record padding bouts. I'm not saying young fighters shouldn't be learning how to deal with a grizzled journeyman, just don't fill the cards with them.

There are many hard working pros that don’t really get an opportunity, who can be in good fights that are fan friendly. The annoying model is really if someone gets beat a few times, they become an opponent until they want to quit - in reality they should box people at the same level. Nav Mansouri, Jez Smith and Macauley McGowan are all consider opponents now but what’s wrong with putting a few of them against one another? Smith vs McGowan would be an absolute barnburner - main event on a Friday night would be brilliant. There’s loads and loads of these in every weight class.

    Spot on.

We don't demand mega names every time. Just competitive, entertaining fights like the one on Channel 5 last week.

Boxing is thin in general lol I don’t know how you can go after one stable when there’s a lot worse out there.

The thing is that a couple of decades ago ( and before that ) World Champions, sometimes elite World Champions , would be brought over to fight the UK elite. This never happens anymore. Occasionally a Brit will go to America to get battered but now it’s just eliminators and second level overseas fighters with the odd British title fight thrown in. Frank used to do 4 or 5 world championships on one card in the nineties , now in Britain, we don’t seem to get 4 or 5 in a year. Plenty of Benn vs Granados fights though, plenty.
