Why do I see McClellan often rank #1 at p4p hardest punchers of all time? Tbh, he is nowhere near number one IMO. All the knockouts that he did are from bums and most of them are still conscious when they took his best shot. Gilbert Baptist is probably the best outta all those bums and next to him is a faded John Mugabi. Julian Jackson might be the only elite fighter he ever kayoed but even landing clean right cross to the chin and a left hook to the jaw, JJ still got up from the punch. Am I saying that he's featherfisted? no. He is a terrific power puncher, but still I feel it's clear that all of those knockouts are from bums. A lot of people discredit Deontay Wilder becuz he knocks out bums but ain't McClellan just the same? Would love to hear your opinion though... Please go ez on me I'm trying to point out my argument in the most nicest way possible...
No it's nowhere near overrated, Emanuel Steward not one for hyperbole said he could really bomb. Once you get to the Mugabi, Jackson, McClellan , Benn level of power it's hard to differentiate between them. I guess for one shot lights out Julian Jackson is #1 for me
There’s a hole in that argument ...he’s not a great puncher because he never knocked out a really good fighter
benn is my man but he doesn't hit on the same level as g-man and jackson and he hit like a ton of bricks.
If James Toney tells me a guy is the hardest puncher he ever faced, I’m going to listen. If Roy Jones Jr tells me the same guy is the hardest puncher he ever faced, I’m really going to listen. If Frankie Liles then tells me that same guy is the hardest puncher he ever faced, I’m going to say the guy was a damned hard puncher. I guess they overrated him. I mean, they only fought him … what do they know?
Most fighters are full of **** they pick obscure guys cause they dont want to give ctedit to their biggest rivals... go read the best i fought series for examples of that some of the picks some fighters make are just plain ridiculous... who did Sosa stopped other than a past it Charles Williams thats even worth talking about?
Because couch and keyboard warriors like you know how it feels to get hit by someone far more than the guys who actually got hit by them, lol.
I wouldn’t call him P4P. He was a very hard puncher but so many others are too, What needs considering in these conversations to put guys on the top shelf iis who did he stop? After the eye test you’ve gotta look at the paper work. I think there is an argument for Hearns hitting harder for example though it doesn’t seem right to some. Better stoppages, power carried up ect if we put Tommy in the same line up Gman had it’d look a lot alike minus any losses and add one destruction of Benn.
He did. There's a journeymen named Lenzie Morgan and he was never a great fighter and was a bum. But the only good trait about this guy is his chin and toughness, so he's probably a Ron Stander or Johann Duhaupas type fighter. Beating him is not impressive, but knocking him out is damn impressive. Even though he was stopped before Sosa, but the commentators kept saying that his stoppage over Andrew Maynard was "not convincing" and Sosa was the first fighter to stop him convincingly (literally breaking his jaw) This content is protected
