This fight will go the distance. My first thought is that Trinidad will win. But Trinidad doesn't bring anything that Fullmer hasn't seen before, except for his being a 168 pound middleweight, if he didn't weigh that as a welterweight. I would be curious to see how Trinidad reacts to the left elbow/headbutt/right hand to the thigh combination that Fullmer liked.
He was 10 pounds south of 168 as a welterweight. I always considered Tito a light middleweight, especially because of his well-documented trouble making welterweight.
I know he got bigger as he moved up! I was commenting on his weight as a welterweight. In his prime, as a light middleweight, he was entering the ring at around 163.
It is common knowledge that he went against much more terrifying punchers such as Florentino Fernandez, Eduardo Lausse and D*ck Tiger right? (he was past his prime by then) And none of them knock him out.
Fullmer gradually wears Tito down and stops him in the last few round s. Tito s best shots just don't do it against Fullmer.
I agree with you that Tito was middleweight, he could hurt alot.of guys at 160. He was a good size 160lber. In this case though I think Fulmer's strength, awkward aggression, iron chin. + his manager as referee. Its a rough nite for Trinidad. Alot of a mauling.
Trinidad wins. Trinidad will hit and get hit less. Fullmer is no Bernard Hopkins. Worse footwork, slower. The only thing Fullmer has over Trinidad is perhaps power in his right hand, but GF will find it very hard to land that shot.
