Disgusting. How can anyone do that to themselves? Then again, he was regularly 300lbs in between fights even in his mid 20's. It's the reason why Rock Newman had enough and started fleecing him.
Stupidity and laziness. Even going back to his amateur days he nearly missed the plane to go to Seoul because he overslept. He had such a bad rep that after he turned pro, no big time promoter or manager would work with him. After he got that huge HBO deal he bought himself a mansion, his mother a mansion, homes for his siblings, extended family, friends etc. Paid all their bills for years. Bought 30+ luxury cars. I remember reading an SI article from the mid 00s when Bowe was making his first ill-fated comeback after being released from prison and it was just sad. He went to a car dealership and bought a new BMW, then later that day decided he didn’t like the colour so he went back to the dealership the next day and bought the same model again with a different colour. Bowe was his own worst enemy.
After his last fight with Golota his speech was noticeably different ,you could tell something had happened.
The blessing of Evander's fight is that people saw that these old men shouldn't be anywhere near a ring and that probably helped Bowe from getting a life threatening beating.
Hopefully even if they lack sense, these commissions will begin to appreciate the liability that may attach if they license an obviously unfit fighter.
