As you all know, I am a fan of the old timers, and like to study boxing technique. That is honestly one of the best displays of boxing skill that I have ever seen, outside of the lower weight classes. Usky has earned my respect, not that he didn't have it anyway! Very few smaller heavyweights, have ever beaten the bigger heavyweights, based on boxing skill alone!
People asking where the former CW champs are in the HW division today. The guys under 6'5 who aren't power punchers. Well now we know.
This is the truth. Actual proper fight experience where you learn something in victory, he probably had 2 or 3 of those fights. All the stuff before that was record padding. I said a few years ago that he needed to be in the ring 4 times a year at that point and he'd already gone to a twice a year schedule. Then with COVID he's only fought once a year. He didn't ever really finish his apprenticeship. Such is modern boxing fight scheduling.
Duran and Armstrong got as good as they got by fighting fortnightly, sparring with 6oz horse hair Reyes gloves every day year round; no Olympic gold cash backing there.
No size isn’t the only factor but it does matter to an extent. And while Joshua is bigger, Usyk is no small guy.
