A lot of posters believe that the era of the super heavyweight would be h2h dominant against any heavyweight prior to Lewis. The argument is that the size and strength of a modern heavyweight would be far too great to be overcome by heavies from earlier eras and therefore the likes of Tyson, Holmes, Ali, Louis, Foreman and Liston would be unable to compete. Does the result of tonight's fight change your opinion on this? Or does it reinforce it?
No... it confirmed mine. Why Oleksandr Usyk Is More Than Capable Of Moving Up & Dominating The Heavyweight Division.
HWs will get bigger and bigger until they’re a different breed. There’s still here hope for guys 6’ plus to snag a title, but you’ll never see guys like Frazier, Marciano, or Tyson again unfortunately. By 2100 I believe the top guys will tend to be 6’10 plus
Well there were guys arguing a few years ago that AJ would destroy Ali because He'S So BiG. I was on the other side of that opinion. I think AJ is good, and his size makes him very good. But greatness comes from skills and intangibles and he does not have those. Usyk, on the other hand, does.
It hasn't changed much as Usyk is a special fighter, he is the exception to the rule but not the actual rule! He is a uniquely skilled fighter for sure.
Size is an advantage, but it's not everything. Size can be overcome with extra talent. The old adage still holds true. A good big man beats a good little man. Tonight did not really change my opinion. Usyk is not exactly a small man. He is 6'3 and over 200lbs. Tonight we saw a great big man beat a good big(ger) man.
No as I never ranked Fury or Joshua alongside Lennox, Ali, Liston or Tyson. What it has done is made me truly appreciate how good Usyk is.
