there is support for your claim as well. in his defense against Briscoe, I saw Monzon's eyes roll when caught by a right had and he didnt know where he was and lost control of himself. it is quite obvious he was in trouble
You have Monzon should be higher. Roy was a good puncher but certainly not as hard as you think. Literally no ome said that Roy hit the hardest and Julian Jackson never said McCallum had the best chin it was Thomas Tate. Castro took Roy's punches better than McCallum and Tate took JJ's punches better than McCallum too. Try watch these fight. This content is protected This content is protected
Castro certainly soaked up many a bomb with aplomb in that one. Insane really. Has a head like a big round rock.
You rank McCallum's chin really high becuz he took good shots by Toney, Roy and Jackson. But literally none of them said he had the best chin, Toney: Tony Thornton Jackson: Thomas Tate Roy: Jorge Castro I respect McCallum's chin, but I do think that you rank him way too high IMO.
McCallum was badly rocked by Curry early on in that fight and badly wobbled by Jackson before stopping him.
I've see both of these fights, and make no mistake, Roy Jones Jr is one of the hardest punchers ever at middleweight. Jones KOed Sosa with one punch. The same guy who wouldn't budge while fighting toe to toe with the best of his era. Sugar Boy Malinga took the best Benn, Eubank, Reid, Rocchigiani & Jarvis could dish out. Jones iced him with one punch. Thomas Tate is the only man to finish twelve rounds with Julian Jackson, and Jones leveled him, again, with one punch. Virgil Hill, a guy who took the best from Tiozzo, Ashely, Mormeck, Michalczewski &c; before Jones took him out with a single body punch. Don't get me wrong, none of the aforementioned are great fighters, but they're all big Punchers and men much bigger than Jones. They couldn't do what he could. Reggie Johnson, a middleweight who went twelve with Tarver, was dropped twice by Jones. Even a guy like Mike McCallum, with his granite chin which went to war, unscathed, with Julian Jackson. Jones dropped him. Undefeated Griffin who took big shots of Jones himself, and while shot went 12 with Antonio Tarver, was KOed in one, by one punch. The icing on the cake is that a shot Jones, devoid of his blazing hand-speed was hurting a genuinely granite chinned cruiserweight, Denis Lebedev, with straight rights. And he did it multiple times. Even in their primes (let's say, for argument's sake, before their losses), both had KO% of above 85%. I don't put much stock into who their opponent says is the toughest they fought. I don't believe for one second Thornton had a better chin than Peter or Holyfield.
It's funny how you try to prove your point on how how hard Roy's punches, yet you never rank Castro top 10. You just list a bunch of people getting knocked out by Jones with one punch and Jorge Castro the man who took a **** load of those punches is rank lower than McCallum, I truly don't understand how that works, I truly don't. Although He KOed a lot of opponent with 1 punch, but none of them said Roy hit the hardest. To me, Jones is an accurate and precise puncher, but wasn't that much of a hard puncher. All of your explanation is just purely by your observation. I just think that Jones power is not look like what it seems because literally no one, NO ONE, again I reapeat, NO ONE said he hit the hardest. Toney, Hopkins, Calzaghe, Trinidad, Griffin, Castro, Johnson, Malinga, Pazienza, McCallum, Ruiz. None of them said he hit the a hardest nor said he hit hard, I don't know how he was able to one punch Tate, but I wouldn't be surprised if he said Jackson hit the hardest. One more thing, He didn't KO Sosa with one punch. Jones is not a hard puncher, but he was a precise and accurate. All of his punches were right on the button when he one punched his opponents. Even Toney could make Charles Williams legs to noodles with light tap like that, Sosa couldn't do it not even Bobby Cycz or Marvin Johnson. Alex Stewart fought both Moorer and Foreman and took both punishments from the two of those guys. but Moorer could stop him but Foreman can't, and Stewart that Moorer fought was 4 years younger than the Stewart that Foreman fought. Does that mean Moorer hit harder than Foreman? Holyfield seems to hurt Foreman more than Cooney did, but Foreman said Cooney hit harder. Robinson stopped LaMotta but LaMotta said no one hit like Satterfield. Terry Norris one punched Mugabi much more brutally than McClellan did, but he said that McClellan hit harder. These are great examples that punching power is much more than just observation. One last thing, I don't care if you don't believe Tony Thornton has a better chin Peter and Holyfield, Toney went to the ring with them not you, so stop with your beliefs and accept what Toney said .
Jones was bigger than 90% of his opponents and usually hit harder than them, he was a lot bigger than Jackson who was lethal at 154, Jones never had heavyweight power, Ruiz may have been comparing his power to Tua`s, lol.
Holyfield hit Foreman with far more shots than Cooney did and never hurt him with one specific punch, while Cooney rocked George with a hook.
Malinga`s high guard gave Benn and Eubank problems despite him being floored by Eubank, Roy was a better finisher than Eubank who really struggled with Malinga as did Benn, who many feel lost in his first clash with Malinga, Jones was a lot bigger than Malinga and Benn, there`s no way Benn could have fought at 175.
