Did anyone in British boxing say beforehand they definitely thought Usyk was gonna win?

I heard Peter Fury, Hughie Fury say he could win but they slightly favour AJ,

But literally everyone in british boxing thought AJ was gonna win, ' too big'' ,'' Usyk looked poor as a heavyweight'' etc it was all the same opinion

They all got it so wrong!!!!!!

'' I don't see how Oleksandr Usyk can have any real success'' ''
I just see him getting knocked out very conclusively''
'' he'll get him out of there spectacularly''
'' there's levels to this game''
''100% stops Usyk in 6 rounds''
'' it'll only go past 6 rounds if AJ wants it to''

Josh Taylor came the closest from what I could see. He thought it was a very even fight and made astute arguments for both.. seemed to lean towards Usyk for me despite being on a Sky show.

I think Fury picked Usyk actually but he always picks whoever Joshua is fighting so doesn’t really count!

Yeah a few people said he had a chance but not one person had the balls to go against everyone else and properly say they thought he was gonna win. I always strongly fancied Usyk to win, and was amazed how he was getting written off.

John Fury  ''Usyk won’t be able to hit hard enough to bother him because he’s too small. He’ll walk straight through.
“I think AJ will stop him quicker than anybody else. I think AJ will walk straight through him. I do.''

I suspect quite a lot of the British boxing "Trade" thought Usyk could/would win, but as it's a relatively small "everyone knows everyone " type of situation that they all feel obliged to back the home town boy.

British boxing is a bit of a closed shop in some ways.

more comedy gold from David Haye :lol:

"I think his style might be very effective if AJ was 6'2" and 14st," Haye told Sky Sports.

"But AJ isn't. AJ is 6'6" and he's an absolute specimen, and he's one of the best athletes ever in the heavyweight division. That just spells knockout defeat for Usyk. If Usyk was the future of the heavyweight division and he's going to be good enough to beat AJ, he should have at least stopped Derek Chisora or won by a landslide.

"But he didn't. He wasn't able to keep the heavier man off him. He didn't have the firepower. I just don't see AJ having any problems. I'll tell you exactly what punch it's going to be - a jab, right hand and then a straight jab again. The jab will knock out Usyk. He will knock Usyk out with a jab.

You would think Usyk was a 5ft 9" former middle weight the way some people were talking about him.

David Haye doesn't want another guy to eclipse his achievement, so of course he would be pulling for Joshua.

I know. On here "too big and too strong" must have been said about a thousand times, as if Andy Ruiz is physically superior to Usyk in any way, which he is not, and that includes strength.

Nick Peet (does the podcast with Adam Catterall) said Usyk would win by stoppage.

    Typical Haye who knows nothing.

I have said it before David Haye still thinks Sugar Diabetes is a Welsh Flyweight.

Yeah Haye is a twat, I'm still pissed off with his comment on calling out Fury after carrying his mate with one arm.

I fancied Usyk for the win but the size matter did bother me slightly.

Dave Allen called it very well on Sky Sports the day of the fight, you could tell he was heavily expecting a comprehensive Usyk victory
