I was at the fight. Me and everyone around me were in disbelief when Hatton got the decision. You could hear the stadium just groan "**** off", and there wasn't much applause for him. He got obliterated. I know he's only 20, but a loss is a loss. He's got a long way to go. There was not a single round Hatton clearly won. The other guy clearly won most of them.
Hearn thought he bought the 2 for 1 rigged scorecards package. Turns out they only honored one set of cooked cards for the night.
Having the ref score the fight is an antiquated system the BBBoC need to scrap. It just leads to a greater possibility of favouritism as you know that ref will keep working Matchroom cards now he's saved their young potential cash cow. I did give Hatton the first round simply on work rate but once Martinez realised he wasn't over matched and started to believe he completely took over. Horrible, horrible decision, total robbery. Campbell sucks right now, he's your face forward and just throw fighter. He lacks the skills of his father who would press, then step back make his opponent miss and then unload. You watch Ricky's debut and compare it to Campbell's the difference in skill set is huge. I personally don't like Campbell that much, his story is one of privilege, a kid who didn't know what to do with his life so decided to take up boxing and cash in on his name.
It was obviously just a corrupt decision, I'm not sure why people are so quick to defend judges like this. If there are no consequences at all, do you seriously expect judges to just refuse inducements out of their own ethics? People argue 'oh it's subjective, maybe they were looking at x rather than y,' but that's a blatant smokescreen. I love how Eddie was 'honest' enough to say 'I thought he was lucky to get that win,' as if he wasn't involved ...
Campbell has a solid right hand and a good chin but that is it. I am not sure why Ricky decided to get his son into boxing. Send the kid to college or a trade school. Why put him in such a dangerous sport when he doesn't need the money? Campbell lost. I did not give him a round. He does not look like a guy who will ever be a world champ or even a top 5 fighter. I don't see the point of him fighting at this level.
Because he is Ricky Hatton's son and whether corrupt or just misguided, McDonnell gave out one of the worst decisions in recent times. It was very close to a shutout for Martinez. Either McDonnell had a script to follow, or he somehow felt he couldn't give Ricky's son the defeat, but it was a disgrace. Doubly so, because I think the result does no favours to Campbell either - having the loss and going back to the drawing board is exactly what the kid needed, but now it's gonna get brushed over. I hope Ricky and Matthew are clear to the kid that he lost. Personally if I was Ricky i'd get him out of the sport, because he has way too many fundamental flaws and limitations to go very far, and hill get brutally KO'd worse than the Hitman did against Pac soon enough!
Not to mention this kid doesn't even live the life like Eubank Jr and just goes out partying and shagging dirtbirds because he's Ricky's son. Not much that's telling me he'll become something, he's not making his own name, just living off his father's.
I don't believe it was his choice to be fair. I watched a short documentary about him and it seems like Campbell didn't really have much interest boxing as a kid other than watching his dad. It seems he was drifting along not really doing much with his life then decided to take it up out of the blue, Ricky in no way pushed him into it or even encouraged it.
Decisions like this are criminal. Not up for interpretation at all. And the silly thing is, a loss would actually do him a favour. He's so far behind his pops that he'll end up getting drilled by a journeyman before he even wins an area title.
his dad was bigger that the other guys dad if your on that sort of platform your wide open for criticism campbell is 2-2 in his first four fights this forum as to keep that recognized as real
