Prime Larry Holmes on his best night vs Oleksandr Usyk in the fight vs Anthony Joshua. Who wins this fight?
Holmes decision. He's a completely different proposition to Joshua with no stamina or durability concerns and far far better skills and intangibles. Holmes would rule the division for mine. I think Fury's a little too cumbersome to beat a guy like Larry tho his size and what he brings to the table would make it an awkward fight.
Well let's see...a top 5-10 dominant HW Champion in his absolute prime with the speed, power, weight, and reach advantage vs a 34 year old career cruiser.
Holmes isn’t faster or more powerful than Usyk, and he usually came in at 210 pounds, 10 pounds lighter than Usyk.
Larry Holmes by a close decision that people will be debating for years to come. Similar to the Carl Williams fight at least in terms of closeness.
Holmes in his prime was faster than Usyk and he had the best left jab in history IMO he was the thinking mans fighter and had the grit that Joshua didn't have
Usyk would give Holmes a lot of trouble for one main reason, he's a southpaw. Holmes never fought a southpaw as a pro, I love Larry, but that's always my big strike against him. Especially since he lost 3 amatuer fights, and 2 of them were to a southpaw named Nick Welles, who stopped Larry in one of those fights.
Holmes did not usually come in at 210. His weight flucuated a lot between 210-223, but I suppose it depends on the night. So fair point on that. Holmes seems to carry more muscle mass regardless. Holmes was one of the fastest men to compete at HW. Uysk is simply quick for being a 34 year old man fighting above his weight. There is no room for debate on who is faster. There has never been a 34 year old Heavy in this sport as fast as prime Holmes. Stop being ridiculous. Holmes wasn't a killer but he has an abundance of high quality stoppage wins over HW contenders Bone Crusher, Cooney, Bey, Snipes, Shavers, and a come behind knockout of the tough Weaver. Usyk has one stoppage of journeyman Chazz Witherspoon and couldn't pull the trigger on an exhausted Chisora and Joshua, he wasn't a killer at cruiser either, has something like only 2 other stoppages total in his last 8 fights... Huck and Bellew at cruiser. No question who is a more proven puncher at HW. So what has a past prime Usyk got that can trouble a prime Holmes? This would be a lopsided decision loss. A workman win over Joshua don't make you the GOAT...****.
Interesting match up. Wasn't Holmes beaten by a rightie in the amateurs? I'll pick Holmes though more proven, better jab, and power.
