True quality can win even when it's sucking ass.

Styles makes fights and Lewis has always performed better when he can establish a dominant jab, hard to do vs Bruno as he had a hell of a jab. Also why Mercer and Vitali did so well vs Lewis.

Luckily for Lewis he was more than just a jab and could switch it up when required and mix it up rather than just rely on his jab.

Like the brits, I always had a soft spot for Bruno. I remember going to a pub early morning to watch the fight on closed circuit.

    I daresay that's right.

Lewis's effectiveness as a boxer peaked in his early 30s, under Manny, but in a way the young[ish] Lewis you see here was probably better equipped to deal with Bruno - a slowish, physically strong, fighter with a ludicrously powerful jab - than the older Lewis [who tended to rely on his jab and weight] might have been.

WOW, Time truly flies. I can remember this fight and the buzz as if it was yesterday.

Great effort from Frank against an elite champion. Frank boxed great on the front foot with his superb jab and at times it looked as though he could be in for a chance of an upset.

As in most of Frank's efforts at elite World level he once again came up short with his chin and recovery powers ( not so much his gas tank in this particular fight) . In hindsight that was to be expected considering LL's pedigree.

Gotta give Frank his Kudos points in that he did win a title strap against Oliver mcall. He did it hook or by crook I know, but it just goes to prove that a fighter with obvious limitations can still fullfil his dreams based on a strong mindset and determination.

I'll always have a soft spot for the lovable rouge that is Frank Bruno.

Bruno sometimes flattered to deceive until his flaky chin took one.

    Yeah, good fighter, Bruno.

Looking back on it, the match they made with someone as dangerous as James Smith looks questionable for a still 21 yr old, Bruno had plenty of time left in his career for big fights [or not, once Tyson got going].

Bruno would have definitely starched out that useless bodybuilder we had as former unified champion.

He would have done with ease, he would just get behind the jab and slowly go on the front foot and take the centre, his body shots would be enough to get the win...

    Good post and fully agree
It's why I think Lewis has a hard time with a prime Holmes

Not saying he would lose, but Holmes had the best jab in the division, he could mix it up and a fantastic chin too
