If Marvin Hagler moved up to light heavyweight and took on the best of that division after becoming middle weight champion, how would he be expected to perform?

Good question. I wonder how Hagler's chin would have fared against the likes of Spinks, Mustafa Muhammad, Qawi, etc.

I would have liked a showdown between Hagler & Spinks

Not well imo, ... not the right era to go up and take on those big boys ,, No problem in the skills, toughness and stamina dept .. but he wasnt the biggest MW to begin with so the weight gain would be a problem, and he wouldnt look like the same fighter imo carrying around that extra weight .. Much like Napoles going up against Monzon., too big a mountain to climb. He's got very little chance against Spinks

He was perfect - and sometimes almost a bit small - as a middleweight. He was tough as iron, but that added 15 lbs would be a lot to overcome; at some point, one of the stronger guys takes him out. His only real hopes are his ring savvy and conditioning/durability, but he could get lured into a slug fest, and it would end badly.

He's never fought any light heavyweights so i have no clue. He probably wouldn't do good

He had the reach to do well at light heavy but he didn`t have the height of a light heavy, he`d have to fight the way he did v Hearns v the taller light heavies but wouldn`t be able to bully a light heavy world champ the way he bullied Hearns.

My guess is that Hagler would not have gained a whole lot of weight for those fights. He was a man of tremendous self-belief. I can see him weighing 165 or so just so he didn't have to cut those final few pounds but I don't think he would have believed he needed to gain weight to win.

I want to preface this by saying that from a pound for pound point of view only Spinks is close to Hagler

Needless to say, the early to mid 1980s light heavyweights were about as rugged a group as you'll find in boxing. I do believe Hagler could have beaten all of them ..... and lost to all of them. Marvin Johnson may have been the fighter he was most suited to beat. For the most part, Johnson lost his matches with the other top guys and seems the most beatable. Let me be clear. Johnson was a great fighter and I am saying nothing negative about him. Dwight Muhammad Qawi might be the guy Hagler would find most difficult to beat. Qawi would be the fighter most likely to take advantage of his size (strength) advantage and I could see Hagler wearing down late.

Can’t see him winning a belt at any point. There might have been a few contenders he could have beaten.

Hearns and Spinks remind me of one another as far as physique is concerned. Spinks would have made a deadly welter and middle

Qawi and Hagler seems like it would be a tear up, assuming that Hagler's chin didn't wilt early under Qawi's light heavyweight assault.

Hagler could’ve beaten the likes of Bobby Czyz and british bum Dennis Andries in the mid 80s
