Whatever happened to the fight between Matthew and Michael?

Timing.

Saad lost to Qawi only a few months after Spinks picked up the title vs Eddie MM. After rematching Qawi, Saad lost to Eric Winbush. This lost pretty much ruined all chances of another title shot. Didn't stop him trying vs Willie Edwards, though. Spinks would've annihilated Saad any point from the Qawi fights onward. Like, permanently damaged.

The only way this fight could've really gone down is if Spinks got a shot at Saad's title instead of Eddie's. Which I suppose could've happened, but I don't think it would've worked out well. Spinks was in line after Qawi, who beat Saad, and before he lost to Martin, James Scott was in line for a title shot too.

Their primes didn't overlap.

 

Saads lucky they didnt.

 

Prime for prime, Spinks would probably win - he was a tricky guy and Saad was too easy to hit. Spinks wins by late TKO in my view.

 

I think Spinks knocks him out at any point in their careers. I don't give Saad a fair chance either. Two completely different levels IMO.

Love Saad, though.

 

I agree. Matthew was a great fighter but there are only a couple light heavies I would pick to beat Spinks and Saad ain't one of 'em.

 

I would pick Bob Foster.

 

Actually I was thinking more Roy Jones and Billy Conn, but on second thought, Charles, Moore and Foster might get the job done as well.

 

He was indeed. Perhaps the most skillful fighter I have ever seen. Billy Conn was no slouch himself, and fought competitively with Joe Louis for 13 rounds, which makes me think he could withstand Spinks's power and outbox him to a decision.

 

Matthew lost to Qawi, and after the rematch, was done as a fighter. Ironcially, Spinks before this title shot vs Mustafa was #1 WBC contender as well, amazing that Spinks didn't challenge him.
