Who collectively won the 3 Ali-Frazier fights?

In particular I would have to go back and watch Thrilla again. But my scores were Fight of the Century: 10-5 for Frazier, Super Fight II: 9-3 for Ali, and the Thrilla in Manila (I will make a good guess here as to what my score was): 9-6 for Ali. So I have Ali ahead 23-19.

 

Ali, since the final round of their 41 round fight contained a stoppage in Ali's favor.

It's an interesting idea, though.

 

I've always said Frazier should have come out for round 15 in Manilla because Ali shot his bolt in the previous round and was finished. Frazier never forgave Futch for stopping it.

First fight was really competitive but clear for Frazier. 2nd fight was Ali and 3rd fight very brutal again with Ali stopping Frazier. Ali was also ahead on the cards.
He won more of the rounds they fought than Frazier did and actually got the stoppage to end the trilogy.

As per some points raised,

IMO, despite the narratives otherwise, legit or not, Ali toes the line for rd 15, he was a lot worse for wear later rds v Holmes but still came out.

In fight II, Joe was very much inhibited by Ali’s punching hold routine, no points deducted despite repeated warnings. True, rd 2 was halted early with Joe in some trouble but given 41 rds overall without Ali yielding a KD, particularly in the face of Frazier’s disrepair in rd 14 Manila, methinks Joe survives rd 2 anyway.

For mine, Fight 1 and Fight III are more what Joe was about in a reasonably open fight. Fight III Ali kept it open in the early rds because he believed he could gun Joe down. When that didn’t happen, Ali looked to pick his spots and hold….enter slappy Carlos Padilla whose prevention of Ali’s holding made its own contribution to the epic that the Thrilla became.

As it was, I also have FOTC closer than most and with Joe somewhat cuffed in the rematch, I would give Ali a clear but not contextually huge margin over the course of 41 rds.

Futch definitely did the right thing in my opinion. The difference between the two combatants at the end of round 14 in Manila came down to this - Both men were exhausted but whereas Ali was exhausted but could see out of both eyes,Frazier could only see out of one. And most crucially,Joe could n't see and time Muhammad's right hands in consequence.

Over 41 rounds? Ali.

If you had the first one so close, you'd have to have Joe winning more rds in the last two to have them even?

 

Fight 1. Frazier 10-5.
Fight 2. 6-6
Fight 3. Ali 8-5

Interestingly, the Associated Press had a reporter onsite for all three bouts and published their scores after each.
AP Scores:
Ali-Frazier 1 (9-5-1 Frazier)
Ali-Frazier 2 (8-4 Ali)
Ali-Frazier 3 - after 14 rounds had it 63-63 (in rounds, that's 7-7 even)

So the Associated Press, after three fights, (15 rounds/12 rounds/14 rounds), scored it ...

20 rounds Frazier, 20 rounds Ali, 1 even.

 

Just rewatched the trilogy again recently, ended up scoring it differently than previously but what I had was

10-5 Joe
7-5 Joe
7-7 Even

 

Futch did the right thing in my opinion. Though Ali may have "shot his load" theirs no way he wouldn't have came out for rd 15. At this point his will would have pushed him to just pound on a helpless Frazier another 3 minutes.
Futch had the compassion to realize that. He knew Frazier was in worse condition than Ali. And what might happen is far worse than Frazier not forgiven him.
He did the right thing. And to be clear for the both of them.
