Lennox knows his stuff. Wilder always counts on being able to land that big punch. Problem is that he doesn't know what to do if A) he can't throw that big punch or B) he throws that big punch but the other guy refuses to go down. We've seen both scenarios in both fights I've said earlier in the thread but Wilder didn't just get beat in the previous two fights, he got exposed. He knows deep down he lost the first fight and he got the beating of his life in the second fight. He is, barring some miracle, going to join that elite club of boxers who were pumped as big stars but then revealed as frauds and never the same ever again
The sport stars follow the hacks, and we follow the sport stars. Everyone hoping belief alone will help us navigate around existential terror! But Fury figured out Truth when he was at his lowest in that skeleton costume on Halloween: we're helpless. All we have is each other and hard work. Fury accepted that helplessness and - as an ironic consequence - became stronger. Wilder avoided accepting (publicly, at least) this helplessness. He did what most people do when they're at their lowest: find excuses. I always tell my patients who have committed terrible crimes: "thank God you've got capacity". This is both unfortunate for them (as they have to now accept responsibility for these crimes), but - in the long term - a true blessing, as it means they have the power to change their circumstances. All we can do is try. Try and fail better.
Poetically stated all the way through, but especially that passage. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
He couldn't stop him with two shots in the 9th and 12th rds of the first fight, that put Fury down. Not to mention the second fight. The liklihood he can do it now is pretty low.
It is low. Clean shots and he couldn't get him out, therefore Fury can take his best shots and get up and fight on.
Plus to land those 2 shots he had to wait 9 rounds for Fury to slow enough to get him. Fury will have 9 rounds to get Wilder out of there at worst before he becomes vulnerable and as we saw in fight 2 it's more likely Wilder gets dropped a few times and beaten pillar to post for those 9 rounds. Fury could fight Wilder 10 times and I'm not sure if he ever lands enough to put him away. Drop him maybe 1 in 10 or 2 in 10 but put him away? He doesn't have the finishing skills to do it, both times he tried he got hurt.
