After the first couple of rounds, I felt an upset happening. Fury's reactions head movement just wasn't there and he looked like he wasn't in the best shape. I know 50% Fury is still a monster, but still... I feel for Fury that he only trains a little while before the start of the fight, so he's literally spent the most of the last 18-12 months sitting around eating and drinking. Inactivity is the WORST thing for Tyson Fury. Compare the speed of his body movements in previous fights, even fights where did weighed not much less than he does now, and he looked slow and vulnerable last night at times. He retained his knockout power and technique, but he looked a lot more easy to hit, compared to the 2nd Wilder fight where we was dodging those Punches a lot more effectively and Wilder landed nothing of substance. He looked a lot quicker in the first and second fights with Wilder than he did last night. No disrespect to Tyson, but he looked a lot slower than usual. I'm so happy he won
He was clearly nowhere near his best, and did not look at all like he was in the condition or even frame of wind like the second bout. Despite this, he came out on top in a fight for the ages. Can you imagine what Joshua would've done had he been tagged with some of those right hands? And he's a lot easier to hit than even that version of Fury. Levels. A true legend wins the big ones when he is not at his best.
While I was formulating this post in my head, I immediately expected you to think I was trolling. We finally agree on something.
Well, no. You are only stating what is obvious. From the first bell he did not look right, and even before the bout he did not look right. He was flabby around the waist to the extreme last night. His conditioning clearly was not optimal but his base level of fitness is still clearly high despite that. If Fury is to have any chance against Usyk, he will need to devise a strategy and train with 100% intensity. I don't think that last night would have cut it in that particular matchup.
He clearly (visibly) wasn't in his best shape and he wasn't using much defensive skill. Still, he put in a great effort and got a great win.
It was impossible for him to be at his best, he went from fighting AJ to fighting Wilder, to having covid and then worst of all, his new born daughter was in ICU.
His fitness was actually very good. He moved and worked a lot , especially up close. To me he didn't look as fast or sharp as he did in the rematch , but he was still in very good condition fitness wise.
He was mentally ready, but his body was probably tired from the 20-month stoppage and the Covid. I would say it was 70-80%.
